Vehicle Detail

1968 BUICK ELECTRA 225 CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE Opportunities like this don't come around very often. This is an extremely rare 1968 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertible that is fully loaded with a ton of power options and goodies that were rarely ordered on barely any cars like this back in the day. Whoever drove this top of the line Buick off the showroom floor back in 1968 sure spent a small fortune on this loaded beauty. The factory options include: power steering, power brakes, power windows, power bench seat, power convertible top, power trunk, power antenna, cruise control, and tilt wheel. This classic truly is a barn find that had been sitting in an actual barn with a concrete floor since it was last registered in 1975 until 8 months ago when it was taken out to see the light of day for the first time in 39 years. I will explain everything I know about this rare gem. According to the previous owner, and from everything I've seen, I personally believe this car to have all of its original components. This land cruiser was found sleeping in its original paint. The body was never damaged sitting all these years, since it was stored inside on cement, but the paint was faded. All of the chrome was taken completely off of this car. The body was then stripped to bare metal, and each panel was meticulously prepped. It was then primed with the best primer, and sealed with the best sealer available. Then the paintwork was done in the beautiful original Aqua Color Code as shown in the pictures. A top of the line clear coat was applied in three coats. The body was then wet sanded at 1000, 1500, and finished with 2500 to bring out the mirror shine as evident from every angle that the car is shown. All of the chrome and trim still appears in nice drivers quality condition or better. I saw no signs of this car every being involved in any type of accident. This beautiful big body convertible was never rusted, since it was literally parked when it was 7 years old! The engine is the powerful Big Block 430 with a 4 barrel carburetor. This car was parked in 1975 with only 84,000 original miles, but that shows it was enjoyed for those seven years that it was registered. This purchase was made with the plates that were last used when this car was on the road before it was parked in 1975. The transmission filter, fluid, and trans pan gasket was changed. This engine deserved a new radiator, so that was replaced with a brand new heavy duty radiator. The alternator was also replaced at that time. The engine was treated to a valve job, new lifters, new valve seals, new water pump, new oil pan gasket, and a new timing chain with both new metal gears. Also replaced were new valve cover gaskets, and a new valley pan with new intake manifold gaskets. Then all new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new points, new rotor, new condenser, and a new distributor cap were all replaced. All the belts are brand new, and there are no leaks under this car. The exhaust manifold gaskets were replaced when all new dual exhaust was mounted with new dual flowmaster mufflers, and chrome tips on the end of the dual exhaust. The power brakes were completely replaced in the front and the rear including all four wheel cylinders, and new braking hardware. There is a brand new master cylinder, and all of the brake lines and the fuel lines are all brand new. The differential gasket is brand new with new rear end fluid. The front and the rear floor pans are the originals and have never been rusted out. The carpeting is still in almost new original condition. The floor mats are nice plastic aqua mats from way back then to match the body color, but I also placed a full set of four brand new carpeted black floor mats on the floors for the new owner. The front bench power seat just needed one small repair. That was professionally done, and now the entire interior looks close to the way it did when it rolled out of the factory in 1968. The convertible top was recently replaced with the proper new white canvass including a new black glass window. The original California boot cover is in the top well, so that can be attached whenever the top is down. There are no cracks in the dash board, because this car hasn't seen the light of day in nearly 40 years. The original AM radio is still in the dash including the original rear speaker between the center of the back seat. The AM Sonomatic still plays well! It was nice to see that this dash was never cut up like was typically done back in the day to fit aftermarket stereo's. This Electra sits on a set of four double white striped belted ply tires with good tread. The original tires were left on to show the look of the 60's. The tires are the one thing that I would suggest replacing after all these years. If it weren't for the older tires that still hold air, I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car across country. The original trunk floor is in super nice condition with the original trunk matting, and a new trunk mat on top of that. The factory original jack, jack stand, and crow bar have all been detailed, and ready for use. This way if there is ever a mishap on the road, with a quick tire change this tank can be back on the road in minutes looking complete. Included in the trunk is a what looks like the original full size 15 inch belted ply spare tire. Even the frame still appears rock solid. These older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has a genuine 1968 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertible listed at $39,000 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $22,200 in average condition, which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! A great deal of time, money, and effort went into bringing this classic back close to its former glory. Well, I would have to comment that whoever has seen this beautiful Aqua Blue droptop has commented what an incredible car this is, and I'm sure they would all consider this rare gem in much better than what Nada considers the value of average condition. If all the options that this car had were factored into the Nada values, I believe this car would soar into the high dollar range. Whatever this classic "Duece Enna Quarta" droptop sells for in this quick "No Reserve" 5-day auction is a win/win investment. This full size, and when I say full size, I mean full size Antique Buick convertible is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these true 225's have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. This 1968 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertible is one of the finest handling full size classic cars I have ever driven. This Buick starts right up every time, and runs great. You can barely hear the engine run, and the green cold light still goes on when the engine is first started until it warms up. The all new braking system allows this classic to stop on a dime. Here is a prime opportunity to acquire your dream car at a nominal price. There are still a few cars shows left to attend this season, so this classic can be enjoyed right away. I know my descriptions can be a little long winded, but I try to list everything I can think of when I write a description, so every potential bidder can make the most informed decision prior to placing their bid. If you feel I may have left anything out please ask as many questions as you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. What you see is exactly what you get! This car is being offered at "No Reserve" on a 5-day listing. It will sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening at 5:00pm Pacific, 7:00pm Central, or 8:00pm Eastern time depending on your location. Thank You for taking the time to read and view my auction!!! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!!
