Vehicle Detail
I wanted so badly to resto-rod this beautiful car! 1938 was a recession year and very few 1938 F-38 Rumble Seat Convertibles were made by Olds; this is one of only two I have ever seen or heard of in over thirty years in the hobby. What makes this car great are the grille and body lines, and the rumble seat with the little trunk below it. What really makes this car a great restoration or resto-rod project is the strong, beefy frame, along with factory independent front suspension. Even better, the entire frame and running gear have already been restored, while the body is solid throughout, even down to the fender edges and other places where rust normally creeps in. The body itself has is already done and in primer. The only bodywork left to do is a little straightening of the front fenders and some edge work on the bottom of the rear fenders. There is NO rust in the floorboards (they look perfect--see the photos), inner fender panels, frame or anywhere else on this car. The only thing missing is the original, anemic flathead six motor, but the car is perfect for a late model small block. Or how about an overhead cam straight six?!. See the photo of the engine compartment--it is very wide and long, it can easily accommodate the crate motor of your choice. Along with the car as pictured, I have a large number of boxes, also pictured, containing original equipment and parts, some of which have already been re-chromed. The bumpers, and bumperettes are all there and all re-chromed, for example. The original transmission is there along with a NOS muffler, all the convertible top bows and pieces, much of the original interior and door panels. The seat and rumble seat back have already been re-upholstered years ago, apparently in the original leather. The only thing I seem to be missing is an original steering wheel. I have "finger-tightened" the grille, fenders, hood and running boards so you can see what the car will look like when it is finished. Taking them off for final finish and paint will take only a few minutes. I have owned this car for more than a dozen years; the car has a clear California 1938 Oldsmobile title. I bought it from the man who started the restoration, really wanted to finish it but too many things got in the way and now it is getting too late, at least for me. If you'd like more photos or would like to see the car, send me a message! I'm in Walnut Creek, Ca. I will deliver this car anywhere within a one hundred mile radius of Walnut Creek, CA at my fuel cost of $50, or you may pick it up or have it shipped. In that case, please contact me to arrange a pick up date. Payment must be in my bank before shipment or delivery. I have many other items on auction and I will be happy to combine shipments to save you money. I am selling items from my personal collection, I am not in business so I do not accept returns. REVISION:MORE PHOTOS--today I photographed the contents of all the boxes of parts for this car. You can find all ninety-six of them on the cloud at https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A3GDdyTvGgQq0C or you can send me a message and I will send you a link. REVISION #2:Today I posted lots more phtots, showing a close-up of the stales trim, the headlights, hood side spears and stainless trim, the NOS muffler, re-chromed bumpers still in wrappings, front & rear bumper brackets and anti-sway bars, radiator & shroud, bottom edges of all four fenders, one side (for trim & hole placement), top bow (wood, in good shape w/no rot), frame, dash, convertible top frames and irons, center floorboard piece (check the condition!), all the remaining stainless side trim pieces, re-chromed hood centerpiece, door inside garnish mouldings, and at the top, a pair of re-chromed pieces I cannot identify. On Sep-20-14 at 20:52:22 PDT, seller added the following information: REVISION #3:I do not have the original steering column and box, don't know why. But I can include a 1950 Olds Hydramatic steering column and steering box if you wish.
