A version of the car was produced in Brazil under the names Galaxie 500, LTD and Landau from 1968 to 1982. As often is the case with American cars, the model names shifted around from year to year, but the Galaxie was always Ford's full-size car. In the late 1960s, the low trim Fords would be the Ford Custom 500, while the high end would be the XL and LTD, but the Galaxie was normally the high volume counterpart to the Chevrolet ImpalaAssembly: Wayne, MIWayne Stamping and Assembly Plant is a Ford manufacturing facility, integrating both stamping and assembly operations. Assembled body units and stamped body components are transferred from the stamping/body area of one building to the paint and assembly area of the adjacent building via an overpass bridge. The assembly process includes welding (with and without robots) and sealing of sheet metal body components, metal finishing (sanding and surface preparation), phosphate coating, painting, and final assembly. The facility is located next door to the Michigan Truck Plant, which builds the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. The plant was opened in 1952 and currently occupies 229 acres.Body: Galaxie 500In 1967, the 7 Liter model no longer carried the Galaxie name; it was to be the last year of its being separately identified. Little else changed except for trim and the styling; the same engine range, from a 240 in³ (3.9 L) six-cylinder to the 428 (7.0 L) V8. Modifications to the styling included adding a major bend in the center of the grille, and making the model less "boxy" than the 1966 model. The XL model no longer carried the "Galaxie 500" designation.Engine: 8 Cyl. 390 CIDThe 390 CID (of 389.6 CID or 6.4 L true displacement) engine, with a bore of 4.05 in (103 mm) and stroke of 3.78 in (96 mm), was the most common FE engine in later application. It was used in many Ford cars as the standard engine, as well as many trucks. It was a popular high-performance engine too; although not as powerful as the 427 and 428 models, it provided good performance, particularly in the lighter weight vehicles, and was in much greater supply.the 390cid 2v is rated at 265 bhp @ 4,100 rpm The Ford Galaxie entered the scene in 1959 and was offered in various configurations. The model line consisted of a Club Victoria, Town Victoria, Club Sedan, Town Sedan, Sunliner Convertible and Skyliner Retractable. Similar to the Fairlane, they were distinguished by different ornamentation. In 1960 the starliner name plate was added to the Galaxie line up. In1962 the style completely changed and by the mid 60's the mildly tamed Galaxie name was adorned to the 400 series blocks producing approximately 425. In 1966 it's most powerful variation was created and the new 500XL was a 428. Ford offered 52 upholstery choices, 25 two-tone combinations, and 15 Diamond Luster Enamel paint colors. The muscle-car era was in full-swing and the Ford Galaxie was a formidable contender with its 428. The Galaxie 500XL was a high-performance, customizable, and sporty machine of the era and all it's original attraction still rings true today.
