Vehicle Detail

PORSCHE 928S 1986 Vintage Rare Collector Car Celebrity Owned! A low mileage, non-smoking 2 owner car. Original owner was Kevin Duckworth of the Portland Trailblazers. You are viewing a nice and original, 1986 Porsche 928 S. Covering only 85K miles since new, this car has been loved and cared for by its limited number of owners. This 928 S runs and drives beautifully, and boasts all the luxury and power expected from Porsche’s venerable Autobahn Express grand touring machine. The Porsche 928 was a luxury sports-GT car that was produced from 1978 to 1995. When the 928 was released, it was the new range-topping model as being the best possible combination of a sports coupe and a luxury sedan, something well equipped and comfortable enough to be easily driven over long distances Originally intended to replace the company's iconic 911, the 928 combined the power, poise, and handling of a sports car with the refinement, comfort, and equipment of a luxury sedan to create what some Porsche executives thought would be a vehicle with wider appeal than the compact, quirky and sometimes difficult 911. Porsche utilized a transaxle in the 928 to help achieve 50/50 front/rear weight distribution, aiding the car's balance. Although it weighed more than the difficult-to-handle 911, its more neutral weight balance and higher power output gave it similar performance on the track. The 928 was regarded as the more relaxing car to drive at the time. Engine: The resulting M28 engine eventually designed has multiple unusual features. Its bore spacing is 122 mm, almost exactly the same size as a Chrysler 426 hemi or a big block Chevrolet engine. This engine uses thick aluminum cylinder barrels, hence the lower displacement. The engine was designed for air flow first, thus the spark plugs are located top of the head. The four-bolt main bearings are massive, and are fed oil via grooves in the bottom surface of the block. The oil and water pumps are powered by the timing belt, and the design of the engine allows for sufficient air flow with a very low hood. Porsche updated the North American 928 S for 1985, replacing the 4.7 L SOHC engine with a new 5.0 L DOHC unit sporting four valves per cylinder and producing 288 hp (292 PS). Seats were also updated to a new style. As stated, this specific example is in good condition, and shows only enough patina to confirm its originality. Overall, the paint is in decent shape, and is predominately all original to the car. Only a couple of areas of notice appear to the eye. (most disappointingly), there is a scratched area on the right rear quarter panel , that a jealous passerby decided to ‘key’ scratch. It has been touched up, but is still noticeable. Also there is a scratch on the top of the right front fender but this can probably be wet sanded & buffed out. Also comes with a spare set of Factory 928 Forged Alloy wheels. (as you can see from the photos, the chrome is degrading on the original wheels) Inside, the car is near spotless, and in nice condition on a 928 of this vintage. The interior condition (often a telltale of the life a 928 has lived) is a testament to the love this car received over the years. Everything else about the interior is as one would expect in a well-cared for car of this age & miles. Mechanically, as stated, the car always starts right up, and runs and drives beautifully. A few things that have been done in the last year are: timing belts, spark plugs, water pump & oil change with full synthetic oil. Overall, this is a nice example of a rare & original Porsche 928 S. Any collector car enthusiast already knows what’s happened with Porsche 356 & early 911 cars. Most agree that the 928 is slated to be one of the next models to begin the rapid acceleration in value. Two factors would strongly back this theory up. First, the current early Porsche values have priced the casual or beginning collector car enthusiast out of the market (not everyone has $100K+ for a weekend car). Secondly, the 928 was one of the cars that the kids of the ‘80s dreamt of. These kids are today’s next generation of enthusiasts. The S is the epitome of the 928 platform (save for the $75-90K 928 GTS). Own one reasonably now, while you still can. Offered here at LOW RESERVE!! I encourage all potential buyers to come inspect the car in person prior to buying or bidding. Feel free to call me with any questions or for more information. Car condition is subjective. potential owners should decide for themselves if this car is for them. Car is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. I can help with very reasonable shipping arrangements, but transportation is ultimately the responsibility of the buyer. Zero or negative feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bid may be cancelled. Please only bid or offer if you are serious. Finally, feel free to email with any questions, more details, or if you'd like to make an offer. Good luck!
