Vehicle Detail

Wow, an original, complete and rust free Dodge A100 Camp Wagon, it even includes the original owners manuals! The ultimate camper mobile for camping, shows, weekend trips! More powerful, more comfortable, but at a fraction of the cost of a VW camper! Ready for your choice of paint colors! This original Dodge camper is super rare and has the very desirable and hard to find higher trim level (Custom Sportsman), 273 V8 engine, and 3-speed LoadFlite (TorqueFlite) automatic transmission, anti spin rear axle, full wheelcovers, and the Travel Equipment Corporation (TEC) camp wagon conversion package. The package, which was sold through Dodge dealers, included an aluminum elevating top that has windows and screens, and allows a 6 foot person to stand inside the van. Inside the camper are dinette seats and a table, which can adjust to both face forward or face the table, or fold into a bed. There are also a small sink, cooktop, and ice box, plus the laminate cabinetry, and a canvas bunk! The Custom Sportsman trim level includes upgraded color coordinated dash with chrome trim, color coordinated steering wheel, and door panels, all of which make for a very good looking, practical, and versatile package! What is most amazing is the efficient use of space in the compact and maneuverable Dodge van. The van is in very good original running and driving condition. The dash instrumentation all works, with the exception of the gas gage which works when it wants to. The van starts right up, and has good oil pressure at all times. The automatic shifts fine, and with the V8 engine the van has fine acceleration. Over the last few years I have replaced all wheel cylinders and the master cylinder, and the brakes work great. I have also replaced front motor mounts, the fuel pump and hoses, headlight switch, and the fuel filler hose. The van drives great, though I have only taken it on short local trips, and I would recommend checking it over before taking it for a longer drive. The van will drip oil and transmission fluid when sitting, which lessens when it is started and driven more frequently. I have not had time to enjoy driving the van and that is why I am selling it. The original radio does not work. The interior of the van is amazing and very complete. It has the original cabinetry, including the sink, stove, and ice box. The original higher trim level "Custom Sportsman" door and side panels and armrests are in great shape all around the van interior, as is the original board headliner over the drivers compartment area and the driver and passenger sun visors, and all five original interior light lenses (dome light up front, four camper area lights, and they all work)! These are the things that are so hard to find! The plastic interior of the ice box is cracked, but I have an ice box in better shape out of a parts van, and that spare ice box will be included in the sale. The original color coordinated steering wheel has some cracks. The seats have been redone, and they appear to be correct materials and look very good. The front compartment floor has a carpet insert (originally the vans had a rubber mat) and the rear camp area has newer linoleum vinyl. The dinette area is great and ingenious!!! The two small bench seats can be adjusted to either face each other with the dinette table in between, or can be adjusted to have both facing forward. The bench seats also fold into a bed. The pop up top elevates manually, which provides the room for a six footer to stand inside the van, and also provides the room for an original canvas cot, which is still in the van. In addition to the screened windows in the elevating top, a couple of the side windows also tilt out. The cabinets and hardware and linoleum counter and table tops are in very good condition, though the under sink cabinet door latch catches need to be replaced (I have the original plastic catches that hold the doors shut, but they need to be reattached). I have not tested the electrical outlet or the sink/stove/ice box. The van exterior is in incredibly dry rust free condition, ready for you to paint in your choice of colors... I always had planned to do a correct original two tone paint treatment that would really look great on this van. I can find zero rot anywhere on this van, it is very dry... almost impossible to find in these vans! There is surface rust where the paint has worn off, primarily on the roof, and there are a few minor and very small dented areas on the van (small enough they barely show in the photos, probably parking bumps, near the passenger front wheel, each rear corner, and under the side camper door). The floors and footwells which are almost always rusted on these vans are both solid, as are all doors. The rear door behind the spare tire is dented, which apparently happened often on these vans with the exterior mounted spare tire. The stainless trim piece on the rain gutter on the drivers side is missing, but I have a spare from a longer A108 van that may be usable, and will include it with the van. The bumpers are very straight, are the optional chromed bumpers, and are in very good condition. Overall, the body is outstanding for being so solid and rust free and complete, but does have its very minor bumps and scratches, but no rust through to fix! This van will look really great with the new paint job, and may be the most complete A100 camp wagon in existence! This van was originally delivered on April 7, 1966. The original owners manual and Camp Wagon operating instructions are included with the van. This is a super rare and fun van... and so hard to find in this condition. Please contact me if you have any questions. The van is sold in as is condition, and I have described it to the best of my ability. Bidding is a contract to purchase the van, not to inspect the van. Transport is the responsibility of the buyer, but I can continue to store the van in my garage for a brief period. Title and the van will be turned over after funds of payment in full have cleared. A non refundable deposit of $500 is due within 24 hours of the end of the auction, and full payment through cash, US Post Office money order, or bank certified check is due within seven days of the end of the auction.
