This sad old Mercedes has been sitting in our car orphanage waiting for a new, adoring owner. Or, maybe just somebody who wants to hack her up for parts. The back story is that the car was bought in the early 1990s by the previous owner who wanted to make it into a beautifully restored show car. Insurance receipts show the car insured for awhile. Unfortunately, he died shortly after purchase and his widow couldn't bear to part with it but was finally forced to get rid of it because of zoning issues, inoperable vehicle…all that. Zoning authorities were obviously not aware of the great New Mexico tradition of junk cars in nearly every yard. The engine turns over. The body is straight. There is one particularly cancerous area of rust. (See picture.) Other than that it's a good project or parts car. It actually has all four hubcaps.
