Vehicle Detail
1960 Renault Dauphine1960 Renault Dauphine, cute little French 4 door sixties family sedan, mostly original and complete, very nice survivor with very rare factory installed operable sunroof option and ONLY 37,970 original miles! Originally a California car, titled and registered in that state until 2001.The body is very straight without any major or even minor damage at all. Only small scratches here and there (doors & fenders edges) and a couple of very small dings. The scratches at the top of the driver's side fender have surface rust, also under the fender mirror. Driver side wheels have scratches and surface rust on lip. The paint is in good condition, very fair but could use some detail work to bring the shine back (only one repaint many, many years ago to match the original light baby blue/grey color). The chrome is in very good condition and is bright, but is missing the lower rear bumper section. I am trying to find it now. The car is nearly rust free. There is surface rust on the fender and scratches as noted above and one small rust spot at the bottom corner of the front passenger door. The car has normal surface rust and some pitting on the floor pans, when lifting the rubber floor mat corners. There are some cuts/tears on the floor mats. The original interior is checkered blue and white upholstery seats and door panels, which are in very good shape and appearance. The grey rubber molding around the door openings is somewhat brittle and cracked and/or missing in a couple of places (passenger doors) and could be replaced (molding stock readily available at supply shops). The dash and instrument panel are in very good shape. The headliner is in very good shape except a small tear above the front driver's door - approximately 2 inch "L" shape in size. The original 850cc 4 cylinder engine was replaced some years ago with the bigger, more powerful 1108cc engine; an upgrade - I think - Renault made to its line starting in 1963. I was told that this 1108 cc engine had been completely rebuilt before being installed in the Dauphine. Although the whole drive train (engine, transmission) was mounted back in the car when I bought it, the work was not yet finished and a few components still need to be reinstalled and hooked up to get the car going nicely (exhaust manifold, exhaust carb, fuel tank, etc., and linkage, wires need to be hooked up as needed). All needed parts, now neatly tucked away in the front luggage compartment, come with the car. I believe that it would only take a couple of days for a mechanically inclined person to get this nice little car going.I did buy the car in its present condition and was going to have a mechanic finish the work for me at an extra cost, but I never got to it. I got busy and now after a few years of owning the car I still have not done anything to it with the exception of keeping it in enclosed storage. I am not mechanically inclined at all, and the very little that I know about French cars (except from riding in them when I was a kid) is from reading articles in magazines or brochures and talking to a couple of car guys from time to time. I am certainly not a Renault expert, although I wish I were; these little cars are fascinating! I have now decided to let someone else with more time and enthusiasm get this very nice French survivor back on the road.I have a few extra parts (New, OEM), that I purchased over the years that I will include with the car if my selling price is met (lenses, louvers, emblems) - they are already in the car! as well as some original documentation and maintenance history which came with the car (photo copies). So here is your opportunity to acquire a very rare, unconventional and different classic car with some documentation and extra parts for a very affordable price. You can't go wrong with - Vive la difference! Please note: I also have an extra, completely rebuilt 1289cc engine (no miles) for sale separately for $1,150.00 - Also known as the 810 engine from the 8 Series Renaults used for Rally Racing throughout Europe in the sixties & seventies. This engine could be used for a nice performance upgrade for the Dauphine described above if desired by the new owner. Please note: I have an extremely rare 1962 Renault Caravelle 2 Door, hardtop convertible for sale separately for $6,250.00. Clean, current title. Showing only 12,072 miles - believed to be original, but could also be 112,072 (?). Absolutely rust free, very nice condition overall with super rare four wheel disc brakes and 1289-810 engine upgrade. The car has been stored inside for many, many years and only needs some easy restorative work. Original red paint is very good but needs to be buffed to bring its shine back, removable hard top and rear hood need to be repainted, seats & panels need to be re-upholstered. Soft top assembly is missing. Chrome is near perfect. I was told that the engine does not turn freely and may be somewhat stuck when I originally purchased the car. The extent of repair work may be minor (try to free up the components with some sort of lubricant) or more involved requiring partial disassembly or maybe even a full rebuild. The separate engine mentioned above would be an absolutely perfect replacement. In addition, the car will come with several extra body panels from a 1966 Caravelle (front clip, fenders, both doors, rear hood, bumper parts) to be used as spares if ever needed or to help fix another Caravelle.
