Vehicle Detail

This increasingly rare smooth-running model of the classic VW Rabbit Convertible is all the more unusual for its beautiful color - a rare charcoal blue-gray - and as a Wolfsburg edition. This is a California car, and the engine and body are in fine shape. I bought this car and then found out two weeks later that I was to be a father. I'd had an '88 Cabriolet in the past (along with two Rabbits and an older model Audi) and planned to restore this car to its original condition. With our baby boy coming, that all changed (though it took me awhile to admit it, and I put some money into repairs). This may not be the best car for an infant but it could be the best next car for you! Deciding to put this car on the market was not easy for me. I'd been wanting another Cabriolet for years. It's great fun to drive - like a super high-powered go kart open to the sky. Seats 4 comfortably, though (don't tell the DMV), I once had 7 people in my old Cabriolet (back in the 90s). Recent repairs to this vehicle include body work to insure proper wheel alignment, electrical work to get the internal dash lights and turn signals to work, new brake lights, driver's seat lever, driver's side window repair, and a recent oil change and tune up (late May 2014). The car has not been driven much. I purchased it from another enthusiast, and he told me that he purchased it from the original owner. What is in good to great working order: Engine, transmission, brakes, lights, clutch, radio, alignment - all the core elements are in good to great working order. The paint is still glossy and full. It has some minor scratches here and there and one minor dent. What needs work: Cosmetics. The rear bucket seats could be sewn up, various liners and trims need to be fixed, reattached, or replaced, an indicator light comes on and buzzes that shouldn't, and so on. Let's be clear - there a fair number of small cosmetic issues with the interior in particular. The roof is in good working order for the moment, it does not leak, but will need to be patched or replaced in a few years as it is wearing. Buy this car and enjoy driving as is. It's a classic, so it will need repairs in the future. But it is in good running order right now, with cosmetic issues at present. Or buy this car and restore it to its full former beauty. You'd pay $7K for this model in pristine shape with low mileage. This is not pristine, but it is definitely worth the price I'm looking for here. Let me know if you have any questions. ~ Ben
