1 9 4 2 C H E V R O L E T P I C K U P This awesome little truck has everything everyone wants, Patina, Power, Drivability, and just dam good looking…. The original 1942 truck has been modified for today’s road conditions and today’s drivers. By doing this, it required several things. The original chassis was removed and replaced with another late model Chevrolet chassis utilizing A-arm style front suspension and rear leaf springs. When the chassis swap was performed, the decision was made to do a body drop and not a suspension alteration. This makes crucial difference for the person wanting to cruise this truck state to state. The body was lowered onto the chassis to achieve the stance in lieu of lowering the suspension and sacrificing the ride to achieve the same look. The next step was power.. It needed enough power to toast the tires but also still be reliable. A small block 350 Chevy was chosen to get the job accomplished. The engine was pulled from another vehicle and was gone through and upgraded with all new parts including a thumper cam shaft that makes this thing sound like its ready to run up against the biggest and baddest. The sound is not a fooler though, the carb, intake, ignition and so on was all replaced with performance goodies. It also got the regular stuff, new water pump, alternator, and even a custom-made aluminum radiator. As far the wiring, it needed to start and gages needed to perform so a new Painless wiring system with blade style fuses was chosen to get the job done. The engine is followed up by a 350 Turbo transmission and a 10-bolt rear differential. All of which makes a very solid performer but also a great cruiser. The appearance of the truck fools most, it looks as though I just pulled it out of my barn… Which is perfect! The drive though is where everyone is surprised. It drives down the road with zero hands on the wheel even at 60 MPH. It stops the same with no hands… That’s due to the fact it has all new brakes and upgraded suspension parts. There are a lot of small things not mentioned above like the fuel cell relocated to the rear and all lights working including interior turn and high beam indicators. This is truly an awesome truck and will fool most people by its looks. The fact is though cruising down the road with the windshield folded out and the cowl vent open; the ride is just like a motorcycle… There is enough wind in your face to enjoy every second of the drive… I wish you luck, there aren’t to many of these trucks even in existence today.
