Vehicle Detail
1970 Suzuki TS250HOP UP Kitted Racer When I was collecting these bikes, I was on the lookout for all the period correct 'over the counter' type racers I could find, and I came across this particularly rare piece out of California. This bike has been race restored to a level retaining as many of it's original pieces as possible. Please note all the rare pieces included on this bike. When I find a bike like this I will do a complete mechanical resto on it, but I feel it's important to leave as much original patina as possible therefore retaining it's authenticity. New top end (1st over) & rebuilt trans. Resto included freshly painting the frame & related frame bits, cleaning all aluminum with a brushed finish, cleaning all original bolts, cleaning wheel hubs with rebuilt seals-bearings-brakes as needed---lubing everything, and only replacing items that were truly needed like wheel bearings, motor internals, etc. The majority (bones) of this bike was preserved and really is mostly all original.I did not add any trick bits to this bike---you are looking at it largely 'as found'. Bike cleaned up very well and you would be surprised to know how much originality was retained without 'over-restoring' it. Check out that pleated seat cover, vintage bar pad, and those groovy stickers on the back fender--they're original Campus Suzuki -- Berkeley, CA.All controls--tires---grips---cables---paint---fenders---and pretty much everything else you see is ORIGINAL. Even all original paint still on tank. All original chrome on fenders--rims--spokes--bars--shocks-----all excellent. In 1970 motocross was at it's infancy here in the US. and Yamaha was the only non-European manufacturer to offer GYT-Kitted 'MX' versions of their AT-DT-RT lineup of enduro bikes, which Japanese rival Suzuki was eyeing enviously. Suzuki's answer to Yamaha was their 'HOP-UP KIT' pieces which could be purchased over the counter at your local Suzuki dealer. By 1971 Suzuki would offer the TM400 and in 1972 the TM250, but if you wanted to race a Suzuki in 1970 then adding their Hop-Up parts here was the only way be competitive. These parts available included:--Ported cylinder--(could run pre-mix fuel or oil injection with these cylinders as desired)--High compression head----Lightened 'cut' piston----'Lightweight' expansion chamber w/no silencer----21" front wheel--(in 1970 all TS's came stock with 19" fronts)--'High Mount' front fender with bracket----'High capacity' ignition which eliminated all lighting components----'High flow foam' air filter----'Motocross style' cleated pegs----IRC 'knobby' tires----Boge Mulholland 'scrambles' shocks--And then it was up to the owner to further modify their bike into a lightweight and competitive 'Scrambles' worthy race bike. These mods make this bike really scream (YES, IT"S FAST!!!!) and YES it's just as gloriously LOUD and OBNOXIOUS as we all remember these open chambered bikes being back then !!! It'll make you giggle with nostalgia when you hear it. THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND BIKE AND SHOULD GO INTO A TOP LEVEL VMX COLLECTION OR MUSEUM. In all my years of collecting these bikes I've never run across another one like it.Bike has ZERO miles on it since it was restored.
