History: The Datsun Roadster 2000, called the Fairlady in Japan, was built from 1963 to 1970. It resembles an MGB, and in fact, the Datsun was launched several months prior to the MGB and therefore, any similarity is happenstance. Nevertheless, the car’s main competitors were considered to be the Triumph, MGB and Fiat. The Datsun Roadster was very popular; over 40,000 were sold during the 11 years of production by Nissan. It was much less expensive and more reliable than similar European cars. In 1964, many upgrades were incorporated. With a new and more powerful 1,600 cc engine supplanting the 1,500 cc engine and a top speed of 106 mph, the revisions were impressive. In the US the new, more desirable roadster was marketed as the Datsun Sports 1600. Recently a 1968 Datsun 2000 which was restored sold at auction for 50000.00, The value of these cars keeps going up year after year.
