Vehicle Detail
For this Mercedes, there is a lot of good with this car and a tiny bit of work needed.Runs, starts every time, driven daily, had many new parts and only one small spot of rust by the front right headlight assembly. Some minor things and a paint job and this thing is classic car show ready! Has the 250K Kilometer badge and certificate.New.... 2 fuel injectors, new plugs, new wires, new distributor cap, new rotor, new ignition points, new condenser, replaced- trigger points, new coil, new O2 sensor, new cooling sensor, replaced throttle position sensor, new fuel filter, new oil filter, new antenna, and new battery.Runs pretty good but not perfect. Sunroof works good, and the car has power! The 450se has the D-Jetronic engine which was one the best engines of all time. Now for the current minor issues, needs a new odometer (all of the instrument cluster was unhooked when purchased as the owner was restoring), ac doesn't work, needs a new blower motor for heater and needs a new muffler, headlight cover, and though the tires have plenty of tread they should be replaced but have been driven as they are with no problem. (cracks from setting) Also the rear seat back top is cracked from sun. The front seats are ok but not perfect, also needs a new hood release and cable. It can be opened with pliers pulling the cable so the engine can be viewed and such. The hood real ease and exhaust are probably the most pressing issues. In excellent condition this car can sell for as much as $11,000 or more. Hagertys Collector car insurance will insure the car for between $6,000 and $10,000.Now for more good, It's a sweet classic Mercedes. I bought it for my son as a project and it was barely running when we got it, we did some work and a local Mercedes mechanic did some work. Son is heading off to college and can't have a car and I would rather see it finished rather than left setting again. It set for a while before we got it. He has also switched his desires. It's a great car to finish and take to shows. Will trade for a BMW R1100rt or R1200rt.On Jul-14-14 at 18:46:02 PDT, seller added the following information: I added some additional photos showing the front passengers side headlight assembly. The previous owner hit a parked car in a parking lot while driving it to Mi from Az. I had a replacement signal lens installed but have not done the other piece that goes around the lights. The fender is pushed in touching or almost touching the fender at this location. Chrome is good but I didn't want to risk any damage trying to pull it out myself.I also added pics of the rear passenger side wheel well, noticed some spots there today so figured I should add those pics. I also added some additional pics of the body and the drivers side mirror which is loose. I am working on fixing the mirror this week.Oil was just changed a few weeks ago and we noticed an oil leak. Typical for the age of the car and looks like it needs a new seal around the oil pan. I am taking it to the shop this week to see what the Mercedes mechanic says. On Jul-19-14 at 14:02:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Day before yesterday I took it for a ride and it kept dying on me. Restarts every time though, but it seems the fuel pump is going out. It looks like a new one is about $180. If winning bidder is ok with that I will deduct $180 from the winning bid. I drove it yesterday and only went a mile before it died. It started up again and after a few tries I was able to drive it back home but it did stop at least one more time. This being said winning bidder will have to trailer it home vs drive it. If bids are canceled then I will order a new pump and put it on myself. On Jul-19-14 at 18:39:32 PDT, seller added the following information: Ok.... so maybe it isn't the fuel pump. I unplugged a sensor, I think it's the coolant temp sensor. It runs an extra cooling fan. I replaced the sensor back in the fall and once I did the fan started to just come on once you start the car and it also makes it idle higher until the fan shuts off after a few minutes. I started it up to put in the garage and it stopped once in gear. So I popped the hood, started it and started unplugging and replugging sensors. I pulled that sensor and it stayed running fine with a lower idle. Drove it around the block.... 3 miles..... and parked it. I do know the D-Jetronic can be a touchy engine unless tuned just right.
