Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very nice 1970 Dodge Challenger. This car is originally a California car and has a low 66K for mileage. It was recently painted and the color is now the infamous M3 Mopar Panther Pink High Impact paint. The conversion to the M3 color was very thorough and included all the jambs, engine bay, trunk, etc with all trim and glass removed. In addition to the paint, the Challenger has the factory sport stripe kit applied in black-includes hood black out and side stripes(basically the same as the R/T without the R/T call outs. This car has the R/T hood and scoops. The paint is nice driver quality and shines nicely-this Challenger draws an amazing amount of positive comments whenever I drive it. Contributing to the look is a nice set of Magnum Rally wheels and white letter Goodyear tires. The weatherstripping is new and the door sill plates are new. This Challenger is currently registered and insured in California and has a clear title. The interior has also been the recipient of a refresh-new carpet, seats and seat belts look great. The headliner is also very nice as are the door panels. The dash is in good condition and the console wood has been replaced. The entire floor pan has been covered with DynoMat sound deadener(yes, it was rust free), this really helps to reduce noise and heat when driving down the road. The Challenger also has a nice factory wood wheel that is uncracked. While the car comes with its original radio, I've also installed a modern radio that looks pretty original but has the ability to play an Ipod, can handle an amp and has a digital tuner. In short, the interior is quite nice and looks original. The engine bay looks like a show car. While the car is equipped with its original high compression 318, it has been fitted with an original 340 Hi-Po air cleaner assembly and manifolds. It has original style plug wires, valve covers, etc. The engine was removed and carefully painted and detailed in Mopar orange. All gaskets were replaced and engine is completely resealed and leak free, Its equipped with an Edlebrock 4bbl under the factory housing. The engine bay paint is also nicely painted in Panther pink and has a nice shine. A new, 1970 only, heater valve was installed. It is equipped with the factory large AC radiator and runs very cool, no matter the driving conditions. The engine compartment looks fantastic and never fails to impress at the Cars and Coffee shows. I also installed a complete, stainless steel, 2 1/2 " mandrel bent exhaust system. It has an H-pipe and ends with the awesome Challenger R/T quad tips. New KYB Gas Adjust shocks have been fitted to all four corners. The transmission was recently serviced, sealed and a new kick down/cable assembly installed. There is also a new balanced driveshaft in place. The brakes were completely gone through and work fine. Also installed in the last few miles was a complete E-body drum to drum 8 3/4 rear end/axle assembly(originally had the weak 71/4). The trunk area is also nicely finished in an original manner. A new rubber trunk mat, new trunk seal, the correct space saver spare and original air canister are present. New tail light housings were installed at great expense. This Challenger just looks nice inside and out and under the hood. The car drives down the road nicely. With highway gears, all that sound deadener and that wonderful burble out of the exhaust tips, its really a great cruiser. Its no race car like its Hemi and 440 powered brethren, but the hicomp small block is no slug either. This Challenger was originally equipped with AC. While not currently installed, I will include the factory AC components with the sale. The body of the car is very straight, everything opens and closes like it should and incredibly, all of the gauges work(we refurbished them). The lights, signals work as they should as well. The floor pans are very nice and original with no rust, as is the frame. Issues? Well, it is a 44 year old car so there are a few. The Ac isn't attached. The wipers work, but must be "parked" with the switch. The console has a small crack on one side and I haven't been able to locate the jack. There appear to have been a couple small patches made on the trunk pan, not really noticeable and they obviously don't leak. The choke doesn't work as well as I'd like so its a little cold blooded when first starting(it starts immediately-just need to warm it up for a minute or so). I'll probably address this before the end of sale. There may be another minor flaw or two but those are all that come to mind. This is a very cool Challenger that can be enjoyed now. Drive to any event without worrying about over heating or temperamental drivability. There are a lot of E-bodies out there but few(other than true show cars) that are detailed to this level. I'm offering this Challenger at no reserve so don't miss this one. Drive it as is or take to the next level-your choice. Sold "As IS" with no implied warranty of any kind. Good luck bidding and thanks for looking! On Jun-21-14 at 14:40:49 PDT, seller added the following information: As stated in the listing, I have addressed the choke issue with the carb. It was taken to one of SoCal's top engine builder/dyno tuners and the carb was dialed in and tuned. I drove the car about 100 miles in 95 degree heat and it ran great! No overheating, nice and quiet(all the dynaMat) and smooth as can be. Simply a great cruiser. I am also including a Pertronix electronic ignition conversion for this car(fits inside the distributor so it looks stock). It runs so well it isn't needed, but the new owner will have the option of using it.
