Vehicle Detail
This is a No Reserve Auction. Get in touch with me if you have any questions. 1969 Corvette Stingray with a non-original 427 L88 motor and the original Turbo 400 Trans. It's an L88 Clone of one of James Garners race cars. Google "James Garner L88 Corvette" for some great things to read as well as some great photos. The interior is mostly original, a plus to some and not to others. The carpet is new. The seats are ok but could use a redo and it could use new weatherstripping. The front end has been professionally gone thru and aligned. The steering column has been professionally gone thru with new upper and lower bearings. The body work is as good at it gets, better than knew. The paint is awesome but the clear coat has it's blems with some minor fish eyes as small as the head of a pin. It was lightly sanded with 1500 grit and polished, it shines real nicely now. All window glass is original. The brakes have been gone thru for the most part. Trans has been serviced and it does have the proper torque converter. New radiator and fuel tank. The underside was cleaned up, painted to look great then some overspray got under there at the paint shop. The stock L88's from the showroom had front bumpers, the race cars didn't, verify this by looking at the Rebel, Garners car, the Owens Corning car and so on. The wheels have plenty of pitting on the Chrome but the tires have around 100 miles at most and they look around 10-15 years old. For the most part, this car has been restored but it's not 100%. All original body parts with very nicely done flares. The hood is original and looks great from the outside but you can see on the underside where it was cut for the scoop. I see more L88 claims on ebay than they made back in the day. They made 216 cars over a 3 year period and you're not going to find one of the motors from those cars for less than 6 figures so please understand, this is NOT one of them but it's as nice as any L88 Clone can get. This was an over the counter 427 L88 parts motor purchased in the Summer of 1969. Here are some numbers from this motor. Every piece of this motor is Genuine GM except the water pump, it's an after market Aluminum one. Block is 3963512 Four Bolt mains, Dated in Dec 1968 and it's stamped T0626LO. 3946074 Heads, they are Aluminum and they have the Winters Foundry marks. 7115 Crankshaft. This is the Crank that the L88 needs to hit the high RPM. 7/16" Dimple rods are stronger than normal. Solid lifter cams were also required for the high RPM's. Original Aluminum intake with Winters Foundry marks. I have documented the inside of the motor with a great video prior to install 2 years ago, it shows it with the oil pan removed and the car in the background inside my garage, the same garage you can see the car in today. It also shows the proper torque converter. The photo of the 7115 crank is from the video I made, it may not show up too well here. I have the original Holly carb as well but I did purchase a new Holley for it a few years ago, they both go with the car. If you would like better pictures let me know, I have plenty of them in much better quality. The last known L88 produced has a serial number of 737301. This car is # 737783. The final 1969 Corvette produced was 738762. They always said, the later the 69, the better. With 38,762 made in 69, the most produced year in Corvette history, it's hard to be later than the last thousand. Questions? Give me a call at 503 930 7 7 7 6 or email me. The car has been appraised at $34,000.00 and a few things done since. Got a Motorcycle for part trade? A very meticulous car like this has a proven history of $50k plus, here are some figures to prove it as well as what the real thing brings. The L88 was the rarest of all Corvettes back in the late 60's, well except the two ZL1's, which had an Aluminum block. Barrett Jackson, for the sale they had at the end of January, two of the top ten highest dollar cars were L88's. Another new record was just set, another 1967 that was never raced went for $3,900,000.00 while the famous "Rebel" a 1969, just sold for $2,900,000.00 Back in 2007 the L88 Clone that was considered to be the Best in America for a Clone was sold there for $85,800.00 Lot # 693 In 2012 a car similar to this sold for $71,500.00 with a small block, lot # 695.1 2007, a clone with an L88 motor sold for $51,700.00, lot # 1212. Prices have really gone up since then as well. Other lot #'s to see are #1530, 528, 639 and I am sure there are more. Barrett Jackson has a great website but remember, their clones are most likely as perfect as can be just to be allowed there, hats off to them, great company. I would sure like to see this car there one day.
