Vehicle Detail

Classic French convertible, as seen in many French movies, such as Une Parisienne, with Brigit Bardot (1960) and Monsieur Ibrahim, with Omar Sharif (2003) - see IMCDB web site. Simca's were popular in the 50's and 60's. The Oceane was their quintessential sports car. Very few were imported into the U.S. I acquired this one from someone who inherited it from his father, who had parked it in a covered carport and let it sit unmoved for 40 years! When it was parked, the odometer read only 55,337 miles. I've had it for 5 years now, and, with the help and assistance of many Simca Club members from all over the world, I have restored it about 85%. I started with powder coating the wheels and putting on new tires (to get it home!), then worked on sanding the body down to the metal and having it painted. The brakes are new, the interior is new, the top is new, the radiator is new. It came with the Super Rush engine, which needed rebuilding. I had it taken out and disassembled (see photo), but instead of taking the time and effort to rebuild it, I found someone who had a working Flash engine (which came in the earlier models), and redid that one somewhat (with new water pump, new carb, new starter, new generator). It had great compression and passed the leak down test with flying colors, so I had that one installed (see photo). There still are a few minor things that need attention, like the wires inside the steering column for the blinkers and windshield wipers), but all of the major stuff has been done. It looks and runs great. I've used it mostly for around the town and country drives (not much power for the freeway driving). This really is a piece of French history and culture. One of the Simca Club guys I know bought an Oceane new in 1959, and he still owns, drives, and loves it. He told me that if he was going to sell his, he would have it shipped to France and probably could get around $30K for it there. The U.K Simca Club president has an Oceane, and he told me that it is one of the few still on the road in all of the Britain. I'd love to finish this one and keep it, but I have 3 other old cars that I use more often - this one is a pure indulgence, and I need to continue to take care of the others! Feel free to call or write with questions or more information. Jerry - 650-996-2797
