Vehicle Detail

Daily commuter, 25 mi round trip, cost about $1 a day to charge it, no gas bills, LOVE IT. 12,000 original miles, interior is great, so is exterior, see pics for scuffs and dings. Garaged everyday at home and at work. All is in good working order, all electrical components just bench tested extensively, shifter just replaced, New HD radio, new tires, A/C is great. Car comes with two chargers, original BRUSA charger is fully programmable on laptop, does 110 or 220 charging. New Zivan charger was never hooked up. Batteries are factory spec, 12v DEKA Dominator Gel, 156 volt string of 13 batteries. These 13 batteries need replaced now, the shop that did the shifter replacement, left it outside in sub-zero weather. Car has heating pads under the batteries to protect itself from cold, but it wasn't plugged in. Don't really want to sell it, but we are moving. Car is in Cincinnati, OH, Inspection and transport can be worked out. Reasonable price, car needs a good home. Solectria did hundreds of these METRO's and S10 pickup in the late 1990's , they are a professional conversion of brand new cars, they were $35,000 new. this car is one of several purchased new by New Jersey Power as 'station cars' and were fleet maintained. Sold as is, but I can help out on delivery of the vehicle, I can haul it 100-200 miles from Cinti on my truck with a tow dolly, just pay my gas and tow dolly rental (<$100). Will answer all questions posted , thanks... Not seeing the question I answered on EBAY message adding them here instead: What is the model number on the current batteries?Explain a little bit about the gauges. DEKA Dominator are 8G27 , EAST PENN manufacturing. You can Google, go to, Solectria group at YAHOO it is a great user forum, with pics and help , and a lot of people smarter than me. Gauges...The AmpHr gauge counts Amps used as you drive, lights, wiper, A/C all factor into that too, when you let off the gas REGEN kicks in and the wheels act like motor windings and send electricity back into the batteries to re-charge , just like the VOLT and LEAF do , pretty great for 1997 , and D/C direct current, conversion cars cant do that. When you plug in to recharge the batteries, that Amp Hour gauge counts back down to zero, goes negative just a little, then the charge complete light comes on, car is ready to drive. The gauge on the far right is a combo AMPS/VOLTS , as you are driving it will show the 'load' on the electric system at that moment, stomp on the accelerator and bury both needles. I attached two pics both are the trunk, Solectria has an insulated cover over the rear 8 batteries (5 more up front also in insulated case, if you notice the little black box on top of #6, that is the temp sensor, if it get cold enough, they trigger the heating pads under the batts to keep them warm, again pretty smart engineering. marineland221 A few questions. Does the car currently hold a charge? You said the batteries need to be replaced, is that because they won't work now? When fully charged, what is the distance that can be traveled? What would delivery to Canton 44703 cost? Hi , yes the batteries currently hold a charge, it is plugged in on the charger right now , the little green light on the dash says Charge Completed. the batteries dont discharge consistently , 1st charge after the car came home , 2 miles, next charge 10 miles, next charge 3 miles and so on , battery #8 is hot, when discharged, so a cell within #8 is probably toast, and all 13 batts are hooked up in series. Before it went to the shop and froze , it was getting 15 mile---20-25 AmpHrs on the gauge, on a single charge. I was getting 35 miles on a charge when the batts were newer . AmpHrs and miles aren't the same though , flat versus hilly miles , easy acceleration versus flooring it. The shifter is in the PICS , econ, normal, power, those help with that too. I was thinking going to Lithium batts a lot of Soletria owners did , they are take more charges , and are lighter too. See YAHOO-GROUPS-Solectria, that user group is a TON of help, a lot of really good people there. Canton , don't know what a transporter would charge , Work used Specialized Motor Carrier, dferris@smcgo.com to haul a car from Dallas, that went great, so check them out. Canton , for me , that is 250 miles from here , If it get this car to a good home, I'll drive it to you , tow dolly is 50 a day @ uhaul, gas for 500 miles - $250 sounds fair,. - marineland221 I'm researching how much it would cost to replace those batteries. Do you have a model number of the batteries? Or do you know the amp hours? Hello, yep, that is what I was trying to figure out when I bought it too. They are factory spec batteries for the Solectria" DEKA DOMINATOR GEL - 80 Amp/hr - 8G27 size. There is a pdf at EAST PENN with all the BATTS and their specs. EBAY does want a link posted, and I just wasted 30 mins trying to fake it out,,,TYPE in the address for dekabatteries website with this on the end of it /assets/base/0909.pdfI forgot to write 8G27, size/profile, when I did the description "Batteries are factory spec, 12v DEKA Dominator Gel, 156 volt string of 13 batteries." EAST PENN makes them,(largest battery maker in US).Mr Solar has them at $200 a piece right now. That is the exact battery that the car had in it when it was built. If you want more info, See "GEL BATTERIES" on Solectria Forum on Yahoo (don't have to be member to read, just to post to it).It gives a lot of specs for the GEL and Lithium batteries. Nice to be able to ask a couple hundred Solectria members what they think. Basically, the higher the Amp/hours rating on the battery, the more AMPS/miles you can go before re-charging. 40 Amp/hours batteries will cost less than 100 AMP/hour batteries. It is all up to you, When I got it, lithium was just coming out and it was pricey, so back then, I decided on the GELS now and lithium later. The GELS work period, that is why they were the factory spec battery.Lithium is a lot lighter and re-charges a lot more, so costs more.- marineland221
