1974 Mercedes Benz 450 SL Roadster VIN: 10704412017292 Here’s another nice Mercedes convertible we’ve acquired for our Ebay customers. The quality and detail combined with their rugged, powerfully durable 4.5-liter dual overhead cam V-8 engine make these W107-bodied roadsters among the best and most iconic models ever to come from the Fatherland. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions or to work out a deal before the auction ends. My name is Mark Thompson and my phone number is 206/914-1173. You’re welcome and encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and test-drive this fun convertible. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: Ever spent an afternoon driving a classy, vintage Mercedes Benz? What a treat! Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For my money, an SL of any variant is one of the best values for the overall driving experience that a vintage Benz has to offer. Look over my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree what a nice car this is. What you’re viewing is the result of a wash and vacuum only! I know you’ll admire its overall provenance. My guess is that it spent much of its life garaged because the overall condition is better than many any other vintage cars you’ll likely find for sale. Rust? Please, this Mercedes HATES rust and you won’t find anything here to worry about! The Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. At the first sign of a snowflake everyone panics and just stays home! Having owned many dozens of Mercedes over three decades, I’ve developed a great appreciation for their style, mechanical reliability and the overall driving experience. Note: Several folks have asked why there's no history report on this listing. Both CARFAX and AUTOCHECK only provide information on vehicles from model year 1981 forward when 17-digit VIN numbers became standardized throughout the industry. CONDITION: In total, this is a clean, smoke-free convertible. I take pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly, here’s a list of the good and also a few things needing attention: Hop in; fire up the strong V-8 and it starts immediately – even when cold! The car idles, runs and drives like I feel it should – strong oil pressure, a good battery and charging system, definitely better than most forty year-old vehicles! I’m having my mechanic look it over this week as I notice a harder shift between second and third that experience tells me a tranny mount may need to be replaced. If so, it will be done before passing the car along to the next caretaker! On the interior the MB Vinyl-Tex bucket seats are in great condition with plenty of spring support and no rips, tears or major wear spots. At some point I’d have them looked at as potions have come unglued along the bottom edge. The front carpets are original and in great shape. As pictured, both the door panels are excellent. On the outside, the brick-red metallic paint has had one good-quality respray to the original color sometime in the past and holds quite a shine! The trunk and floorpans are solid and look to have been sealed with POR-15. About the only other things I’ve found to point to are: the A/C has been upgraded to modern R-134a refrigerant but doesn’t blow cold (I assume a recharge is in needed). All four chrome wheels show some pitting and are wrapped with good touring radials, each with at least 40-50% remaining tread. Overall, a very nice boulevard cruiser that should give good service for many more years to come! Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new Ebay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If I don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled. As I’ve outlined above, the phone number to talk directly to me is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. My name is MARK THOMPSON. The car is being sold "as-is, where-is" on a free & clear Washington State title. There are NO brands or history of salvage, theft recovery, rebuild, flood damage or other nasty negatives to cause concern. I've tried to point out known defects as I've encountered them, but please be realistic in your expectations of a forty-year-old vehicle as there are probably others yet unknown. You’re encouraged to come by my Auburn, WA warehouse to look over and drive the Mercedes or to have it done by an inspection service. You might also make an offer as often my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that call and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end. I always reserve the right to sell during this period. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s conclusion. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. I can accept PAYPAL, but if you plan to pay any more than the deposit through them I’ll first need to invoice you and ask that you cover the 3.5% fee PayPal charges. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you decide to have the car transported home, there are scores of companies to choose from. I ship vehicles regularly and suggest that you get a transport bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're EBay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote. Call my designated rep, Janice, directly at (469)587-5096. Give her my affiliate number (2362642) and she can pull up all our information for station-to-station or even door-to-door quotes. As an alternative, you might also get bids from the U-Ship.com website. You’ll be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The car can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
