I am selling this 2005 Nissan Altima SE 3.5 V6 for a friend who doesn't use Ebay. The only reason he is selling because he just bought a 2014 Altima so that says something about these cars. This is a good running car with a 5 speed manual transmission. Gets around 27 MPG on the highway and has tons of power. Mostly highway mileage on this vehicle. Does have minor cosmetic damages but this is expected for a vehicle with this mileage. Engine makes a ticking noise on start up and idle caused by the timing chain tensioner. This is a very well documented problem on the Nissan 3.5's as a matter in fact there is a class action lawsuit against Nissan right now because of this. The tensioner keeps tension on the timing chain by using oil pressure and when they wear out prematurely they don't keep the correct pressure on the chain on start up or at idle which causes a ticking noise. As soon as the car warms up and your driving it the noise goes away. There is reports of these engines making this noise as early as 50,000 miles and the owner getting over 200,000 without doing a thing to the engine. The tensioner costs $60 but is about a 5 hour job to replace so my friend never bothered with it. It has been making the same noise for over 20,000 and hasn't gotten worse or better. He stated that he wouldn't be afraid go get in this car and drive to California today. Mileage may vary slightly because he is still driving until his new car comes in. This car still gets compliments on how it looks and very sports to drive. Goes down the highway at 65 MPH straight and smooth with no shakes. This will make someone a great car. Great gas mileage for the horsepower that it has. All switches, buttons, windows, power seats and CD player work perfect. Cold blowing A/C. Oil changed every 3000 miles with Mobile 1 full synthetic. Inspected until 01/2015 Crystal clear head lights and tail lights. The Bad: Timing Chain tensioner noise. Will need tires in near future, front are to the wear bars and rear are maybe 20% Interior could use a shampooing.
