Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1968 registered as a 1969 Datsun 510 two door sedan. For the first year of the 510 there was a small number of cars that were built in 1968 with several items that were different from the mid 69/70’s and the 71-73 cars. A key one was the stock struts were 2 inches shorter than the later models due to the car had to be raised to meet bumper height rules started in mid-1969. There are many more details like grill parts, trim, dash, etc. that was unique. The 1968 registered as a 1969 occurred due to there was some hang up and the cars didn’t enter the US until 1969, and the dealers all sold them as 1969 model year. This model has become very rare as the number of survivors is very small due to the low number imported and that most of the coupes got thrashed or converted into race cars, etc. The serial number is very low (PL510- 019746) and may be one of the first ones imported. In going to club events and shows around So. Cal. over the years I have not seen one this low. I’ve now owned this car for over 30 years and it’s been one really slow project that I’ve worked on & off again, and now I have to make a major move across country and it’s time to sell. It is an original CA car and has a clean CA title and a current Non-Op status. It has all of the original components including grills, lights etc. that are either inside the car or in boxes in the garage. The original engine had a cracked block, the 1600 cc engine has been rebuilt from a block close to original version s/n from mid-69 car. The mechanicals have been completely gone through, car is drivable and stop/starts etc. The smog pump system is on the car, and it has a Webber 2 BBL replacement carb, along with 2 spare stock Hitachi carbs. The engine has a Pacesetter 4 into 1 Header with a 2” exhaust and Pacesetter muffler, but the header does have a couple of cracks that need to be re-welded. I also have the original 4-2-1 header that was found only on the early cars. Suspension has Turn 6 Swaybars and springs lowering it one inch from stock (3 “ lower than a 71-73), Derlin radius rod bushings, new shocks, installed a low mileage stock differential, brake system has been rebuilt, I have the original suspension parts along with spare half shafts if the mild Screaming Yellow Zonker look is not wanted. The body I have spent a lot of time on to get it straight and replaced parts and welded in new steel where I couldn’t get pieces. The car is painted Alfa Romeo Fly Yellow and I was color sanding it when I cut through some areas that needed to be reshot, and that’s when I got stuck on the project as I lost access to a spray booth. The interior I have the original door panels and they are in usable shape, a prior owner covered them with black diamond padded vinyl and it actually protected them. Same for the seats, they are actually in good shape except for needing to be recovered and are the rare stock low back models. I also have a black headliner I pulled from a car that had just had it done before it was totaled in a wreck. The dash needs to be reformed, but Just Dashes has the mold to redo this version so you can get it back to original condition. I have all the trim parts including the side vent louvers, grilles, some new badging & the lights, etc. I have all of the glass and have new NOS windshield gaskets for front and rear, and two sets of the insert trim. I have the original bumpers front and back, the front has been re-chromed, and a second set of bumpers, front fenders, and an original hood. I have parted out 3 cars to get the needed parts, have spare fenders, hood, bumpers, cylinder heads, half shafts, transmissions, A/C kit, etc. Including a set of Shelby alloy 13x 5” wheels and an original spare tire and rim. I will include a large library of info on 510’s, magazines, etc. and including a full set of OE repair manuals. There’s more than enough extra parts that could be sold off after you finish and make back a big portion of the cost of the car. There’s many more items, this is a project that got stuck at the 90% done phase and will make an excellent show car finished off. I’ve seen cars running in the 10-15K range finished and you won’t be hunting for parts like most of the projects seen on e-Bay. I hate letting this go, but it needs to get back into the road and I’m finding I’m not getting the time any more to do it. $500 deposit by PayPal required at end of bidding, payment in full cash will be required at pick up. I could deliver in the CA/NV/AZ area as I have a car trailer, contact me to discuss that option if needed. Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool. On May-01-14 at 07:46:12 PDT, seller added the following information: ****Item I forgot to mention, the car has the original 4 speed transmission, and comes with a second 4 speed from one of the cars I parted out. Also I have an A/C kit from one of the parts cars, it would give you the pieces to install a Vintage Air unit easily if wanted. On May-03-14 at 18:24:48 PDT, seller added the following information: I've added a video of the engine running: http://youtu.be/Ontdka1pR0A and some new photos of the trunk. Also, on the OE manuals, I have the body book, But I cant find right now the engine book. I think I still have it, but need to dig around more. On May-04-14 at 09:35:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Found the engine manual, and along with it found the original owner's manual that includes the wiring diagram. On May-04-14 at 10:38:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Another find today, I have the original "Datsun 1600cc" valve cover with the fins & raised lettering, and two sets of taillights that will make one good set.
