Yes, it’s a wagon with a stick. I have owned this 2004 V70R for one very happy year of my life, at least when I am driving it. This car offers the modern parent the whole deal – good mpg, AWD, room for the kids and all the stuff that goes with them, but a fun car to drive. It’s the anti-SUV. However – the happiness was short lived. When not driving the R, my wife has subjected me to nonstop abuse. Apparently a manual transmission is equivalent to one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. She refuses to ride in it, much less ever drive it. She insists that it will throw our children into a life of sin and debauchery, and lead to the total moral degradation of the United States of America. All because it has a manual transmission. So, here it is. For sale. The wagon with a stick that I planned on keeping forever. But enough of that. This 2004 V70R is in excellent shape, with no rust or body damage. Everything works, and it had a new clutch and all wheel drive viscous coupling installed at 92,000 miles by Giuffre Volvo in Springfield, Illinois. The previous owner had all work done at that dealership, who holds the records. I have done my own oil changes, Mobile 1 at 3k intervals. Exterior – the car is metallic black with factory 17x8 matte aluminum ‘R’ wheels. Good tires, Michelin all season performance. It has a power sunroof, power up down windows, power mirrors, and HID headlights. On the inside, it has tan leather seats, full heat and power up front, with three memory positions for the driver. The steering tilts and telescopes. The rear mirror auto-dims. It has rain sensing wipers, factory 4 disk 3 channel audio system, and climate control. The kids get heat and air ducts in back. The rear seats fold, or have a cargo net that can be extended up to the ceiling. There is a retractable cargo cover. The car has a 300 horse, 295 torque 2.5 liter inline 5. Turbo, intercooled. The car has all wheel drive, and the aforementioned 6 speed manual. It has the factory big Brembo brakes, and pushbutton driver adjustable suspension. It all works. The observant eBay bidder will also note the prancing moose stickers, which are included at no extra charge. For safety, the car has front and side airbags, antilock, stability and traction control, and most of all, it’s a Volvo. All in all, you can transport three kids and their stuff, yet still enjoy the drive. It has a clear title, and is ready to give you years of good service. What else can you get 24 mpg, have decent power and handling, shift for yourself, go in any snow, and still take the kids to school? You get two full function remote keys, owners manual, and all factory floor mats. The car has two problems – one, the center console has some scratches from the previous owner's purse. Two, the “service SRS system” warning is on. This is a message on the lower left of the dash, and also lights the small yellow triangle with exclamation point in the middle of the dash. Per my mechanic, this light turns on for all Volvos over 10 years old. The Volvo dealer can replace all of the airbag sensors and turn the light off. Or, you can just ignore the light and it will work fine. I chose ignore the light. I love this car, but the wife does not and I just can’t take it anymore. My pain is your gain.
