Vehicle Detail
I purchased this car from California in 2005 where it was fully restored in the late 1990s. The previous owner had it mechanically "restored" to pre-1975 specs: classic dual 1 1/4 SUs with beautiful chrome Stelling and Hellings air filters replacing the clunky Zenith-Stromberg carb and its associated plumbing. The overdrive works flawlessly, though I rarely use it (I have never driven this car on a highway). Great rubber--very nice Michelins with plenty of tread. Note: the ODO reads "17000" This is clearly not the vehicle's true mileage. I do not know the mileage before or after the the body/engine rebuild. I do know that I have put 50-200 miles on it each summer since 2005. Further custom upgrades as part of the original restoration:Complete engine and transmission rebuild.Midnight Regatta Blue exterior paint (a 1990s Ford/Lincoln color)Custom Triumph grey leather interior.Custom deep blue carpeting throughout (including trunk interior and spare cover) Stunning chrome wire wheels with classic knock-off hubs (hubs routinely tightened.Splines lubricated)Aluminum valve cover.Free-flow exhaust system.Manual choke.Chrome luggage rack.Possibly lowered suspension (?) It appears to me that it sits lower than you average rubber-bumper B (one of the reasons I bought it!)My upgrades:Three-spoke mahogany steering wheel (the black plastic original is included with the car).New seat belts.Newer battery.Knock-off hub wrench.Cloth car cover.Magnetic Union Jack plate. This car runs and looks great! The paint still polishes to a near mirror quality (see pictures). I had it tuned up two years ago and it still purrs each time I fire it up. Excellent oil pressure. The usual MG drips here and there. This car has not seen a snowflake, rain drop, or been on an unpaved road in the 9 years I have owned it. It has gone into my garage every fall (under a cover, on jack stands; gas treated; cylinders fogged; intakes and tailpipe covered) and reemerged the next spring. I have really enjoyed owning and driving this car. So why am I selling this great car? The truth is I just don't have the time to drive it anymore. I take it to the occasional car show or Memorial Day parade and maybe drive it another 50-200 miles during the summer. I have never driven it more than 30 miles from my house. I would be surprised if I put more than 2000 miles on it the last 9 years. My daughter is older now and we spend more time traveling in the summer. The car needs to be driven; It needs a better home than I can provide. Here then, are the "problems":There are a few nicks, scratches, and cracks in the paint (it is a 16+ year old paint job)There is slight a "hump" on one side of the trunk cover indicating that somebody tried to push it close at one time without releasing the catch (I bought it this way). The gauge lights have never worked. I have never attempted to fix them since I would never drive an MG in the dark. The brake lights sometimes do not work. This I did try to fix. I traced the problem to a connector on the harness in the engine compartment. An easy fix.The top is showing its age. There are few small rips. Again, I would never drive it in weather, so replacement was never a priority. There is no sound system. I took out the FM cassette player that came with it and put in a blanking plate. Music spoils the ride. Doors speakers may or may not work. Please come and see/drive the car if you are interested and able. Please contact me with questions! I have tried to be as thorough as possible.
