Vehicle Detail
1980Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz VIN: 6L578AE651805 So, where else are you buying your clean, top-of-the-line Cadillacs anyway? Reluctantly, this one was given up by its long-time owner a few weeks ago to us. While it isn’t impossible to find a thirty-four year old coupe in this nice, original overall condition many were just turned over to a teenage grandchild after Gramps bought a new rig and were then beaten to within an inch of their lives as a Saturday night cruiser. That has definitely NOT been the case here! Our research shows the original owner, John Edmundson, purchased it From Guy Hill Cadillac in Pacific Beach, California on October 3, 1980. Mr. Edmundson drove home to Fallbrook and then babied his new ride for the next 22 years. In 2002 the second caretaker took possession and brought the car north to Portland, Oregon. They belonged to the Cadillac Club and appear to have thoroughly loved it as well. In early February I heard about the Biarritz, went to Portland and drove back 180 miles to Seattle (and have been enjoying it ever since!). I’ll be sure to include all the maintenance receipts and original paperwork accumulated by the past owners you see pictured. Please feel free to call with any questions or to make an offer before the end of the auction. My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is (206) 914-1173. CONDITION: A quick glance over my photos and you’ll see what a gem this Biarritz really is! While not perfect (what used car ever is) you’ll be hard pressed to find one in this great overall, rust-free condition. There is NO body rot or pitting to the chrome. No UV-induced “tiger claw” splits, cracks, shrinkage or fading on the blue fabric landau top and great brushed stainless on the front half. I’m no body or paint expert, but the medium blue metallic paint appears to have had one quality re-spray done to the original factory color. The front fenders are trimmed out with the very desirable, rare tapered chrome strip along the upper edge - they REALLY add to the classic body line! The windshield and tinted glass is good and also appear original. If you’ve looked at other GM cars of this vintage you’ll likely run across cracked, brittle and/or missing vinyl bumper inserts front and back caused by damaging sun exposure and heat. It’s really a testament to how well-garaged this Caddy’s been because the plastic parts are still as supple and new as the day it drove off the line. Rust? Please! This classic boulevard cruiser hates body rust and you’ll not find ANYTHING here to cause concern! Yes, the Northwest is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. At most we’ll only have one or two days of light snow each year and then everyone panics and just stays home. Climb over, under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! Please look again at the interior pictures. You’ve gotta agree it’s pretty exceptional overall – I mean like seat leather & carpet that look a quarter their age! Even the original rubber Cadillac trunk mat is still in place (those are membership roster books and monthly club magazines in the photo – that 2nd owner really was a fanatic). The ashtray’s NEVER been used for anything more than coin storage and all the power extras are here including the windows, door locks, seats, steering and brakes. You’ll find original dark blue leather upholstery with little to speak of in the way of wear; only a few missing button covers. The rear bench appears to have never been sat upon. All the dash gauges are as clear and bright as the day this rig left the Michigan plant almost three and half decades ago! The temperature control system switches on but could benefit from a refrigerant recharge. As pictured, the headliner is stain-free with NO sagging. Both door panels are just about perfect, including the armrest areas! About the only interior negatives I’ve come across are: the electric seat switches aren’t working so if you’re like me (6’1”) the driver’s side is a little too far forward to be really comfortable. All Eldo’s have tilting & telescoping steering columns. The locking lever is missing here allowing the column to move in & out, up & down a bit, also causing the steering wheel to feel a bit “loose” – but safe - on it’s axis. Don’t know what it would take to repair, but I think it’s been that way for quite a while and has been easily gotten used to as I’ve driven it. Mechanically the car seems good and strong. One touch of the key and the 350 CID V8 starts with just a few cranks, even after sitting in my warehouse for a few days at a time. As you would expect the automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and has no observed slippage. The brakes feel fine to me. I really like the “throaty” sound of the exhaust. It seems a tiny bit loader than expected, but the muffler is fine. Probably just the way the past owner had it set up. I’ve made no attempt to update the remarkably decent stock engine compartment and trunk. I feel little to no fade or pull when braking and the leveling system never fails. All four 215/75R15 Toyo Eclipse radial tires appear to have at least 75+ percent remaining tread. Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to stop by, inspect the Biarritz and take it for a test drive as it is being sold as-is, where-is with a free & clear Oregon title. There are NO title brands for any nasty negatives like salvage history, theft or flood damage to cause you concern! Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. I also ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions on Ebay contact me before placing their bid. Please feel free to contact me directly through Ebay’s system or, as outlined above, call me at 206/914-1173 anytime. My name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. We can accept PAYPAL, but only for the deposit amount because of the high fees they charge. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends. If you decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous transport companies to choose from. We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get a bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). They're Ebay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote. Call my designated rep, Janice, directly at (469)587-5096. Give her my affiliate number (2362642) and she can pull up all our information for door-to-door or even station-to-station prices. As an alternative, you might also get bids from the U-Ship.com website you’ll be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The Eldorado can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day.
