Vehicle Detail

1966 Corvette Convertible 427 390HP For Sale: 1966 Corvette Convertible Custom rust free frame very solid (surface rust & road grime), 59,235 Miles. Originally a 427 390HP car, now a 402 short block (N.O.M.) original heads, non running, 4 SPD. Rare Power Windows, Option #A31, only 4,562 corvettes in 1966 with PW. I just got this rare old Corvette in, it is a true "barn find" (actually a garage/pole barn find), this car was a farely high optioned car from the factory, Originally a L36 427 390hp engine, (now NOM), C07 Two top car (NOW HARDTOP ONLY, missing softtop, NO SOFT TOP), A31 Power windows, J50 Power brakes (missing PB booster & now 1967 & later dual standard master cyl.), K66 Transistor Ignition (missing TI dist. & TI amp (amp mounting holes still in LF inner fender), now has points corvette tach drive dist.), U69 AM-FM Radio, G81 Positraction Rear Axle. Here is the story on this rare old Corvette, The lady I bought it from got it in her divorce settlement, she said the corvette ran and drove when parked and that the corvette had not been started, driven or seen the light of day since 1981 & always stored inside. She said she kept it for so long hoping her new husband would be interested in restoring it. He never got around to it and had no interest in it, so finally in Jan. 2014 she decided to sell it. The Car does not look to have ever been wrecked but it has been modified. Originally #976 Nassau Blue with #414 Bright Blue Vinyl, now Red with Black Int. The car was originally a 427 390 horsepower car, when I checked the numbers on the block the shortblock is a 70s 402, (original block is long gone) when I pulled the valve covers (no droped vales) the heads were both original # 3872702 with correct 1966 date codes! The block also looks to have the original Corvette oil pan, plus it still has its original 444 transmission bellhousing (see pics.). When I got the car home the motor would not turn over, water pump was/is locked up solid and motor had limited movement. I sprayed lube in the cylinders, about a week later I got the motor to turn over by hand. I replaced the remaining old fuel, fuel tank sending unit, all rubber fuel lines, new fuel pump and rebuilt the carb. and replaced the battery cables. Still would NOT run (now turns over with the starter), 0 compression in #1 Cyl, it is not going to run. (Should have checked the compression first, duh.), moving on, has the 80lbs High performance Oil pressure gauge, has its original 4spd Muncie transmission (vin # still stamped on case, see pic.#14) has hurst shifter, has its original bigblock rearend, Code AU with 1966 date code, 3.36:1 positraction w/4spd & 427, also has its original bigblock rear swaybar (see pics.). Has Alternator #1100696 with 1966 date code (42 amp 427-390hp with Transistor Ignition). Stock headlights roll up and down, gas tank is clean inside with no rust or crud, looks very good. Car does NOT have any bumpers, body is modified, from what I can see most of the mods are mostly just add ons. The hood is the stock 1966 Dome bigblock hood, most of the dome was cut away and a 1967 427 style scoop was bonded on. None of the original dome under brace structure has been cut, but you can still see the front and rear part of the dome under the 67 style scoop. On most of the mods you can see the stock panels still in place with just "stuff" bonded on. On the front the stock lower valence is in place under the front spoiler ( you can actually see the original blue paint on the stock panel in one of the pictures). On the front fenders the stock front fiberglass turn panels are gone, stock turn signals in front spoiler. On the front flares you can still see most the stock panel under the added bonded on flares, front fenders appear only cut up through about half the width of the factory bonding strips. On the back fender flares you can see most the stock panels still in place under the bonded on flare material, any cuts are below the factory bonding strips. One the rear body panel camaro tail lights were added and the rear body panel should be replaced if wanting to put back to stock. The rear "duck tail" was just added on, stock panel appears still in place. Hardtop is in good shape, it is missing the rear window right rear upper stainless moulding, a N.O.S. (new old stock) replacement moulding in its original GM packaging comes with the car. No spare tire tub. This is a rare rust free original big block Mid Year Corvette, do not miss out!
