Vehicle Detail
This bike has been a long-term hobby restoration project, by the previous owner since at least 2009, according to receipts. Lots of work was done during that time, then it sat for an extended time, so there was a need for some extensive replacement of parts, added repairs and general renovation. That work is now completed and the bike is up and running, driveable and ready for a new home.New parts installed within the past few weeks are:Correct OEM style battery 12N9-3A with side posts.Full set of new gray a/m cables (throttle, front brake and clutch)Front tire replaced with correct-sized ribbed 2.75x18 OHTSU tireRear 3.00x18 IRC tire still has the little titties on the tread, so is essentially unusedFull set of new reproduction air filters and air filter tubesCarburetors re-jetted to #140 mains (from stock #135 sizes)Valves adjusted, kickstarter system serviced, some electrical repairs made. OEM style rectifier installed from Retrobikes. Ignition timing adjusted and checked for full advance/retard function.Good stuff: Nice recovered seat w/logo, engine runs well with no smoking, bike was painted red/silver/black some years back, fuel tank was coated inside, good brakes and rims, mufflers are aftermarket items, but reasonably quiet and fit okay. All electrical systems and components are functioning, including the electric starter.Update: The header pipes, which were part of the Asian muffler system, turned out to be long Dream headers. I installed a set of one-off stainless steel header pipes, along with the correct header flanges, in place of the CL72-77 flanges which the previous owner had installed. Will revise/add photos to show the changes.Work needed: repair paint chips, clean or replace some chrome parts (some of the chrome work is peeling), repair speedometer and tachometer (Foreign Speedo in SD can do this for around $200, plus I have a spare "parts unit" in case they need). Upgrade the mirrors to new ones, at least on the left side. Register the bike for the street, once again. Right header pipe has poor chrome and the rubber knee pads on the fuel tank are worn and dried out. Reproductions are available for about $120 a set.Clear CA title (only), non-op status, a plate number was assigned, but not issued, so there is no plate for the bike at this time. You will receive a new one from DMV when it is registered for the street.Usual disclaimer. . . the bike is 48 years old, it is used and it needs regular maintenance to keep it going. Buy it and enjoy it, but don't neglect it. Sold as-is, where-is. Technical support available from MrHonda. No warranties expressed or implied. The CB77 Super Hawk introduction in 1961 was the beginning of the end of the British motorcycle industry. Good running Super Hawks will go almost 100 mph, outrunning many of the Brit 500-650s of the day. Today, they are considered a Milestone model, heralding the awakening of the Japanese Motorcycle Industry's dominance of global motorcycle sales in the 1960-70s and beyond. The bike is being listed and shown locally, in the San Diego region, so subject to prior offers/sale outside of the eBay system. On Mar-16-14 at 07:49:09 PDT, seller added the following information: Engine serial number is CB77-1023063, Frame number is CB77-1023253. Thanks to a recent question a review of the title shows an error on the paperwork. The chassis VIN is shown incorrectly as CB77-10233253 on the paperwork. I have added a photo of the frame number at the end of the image gallery. On Mar-16-14 at 07:51:37 PDT, seller added the following information: Engine serial number note is corrected: to CB77E-1023063On Mar-16-14 at 20:59:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Because of the typo issue on the CA title, I will take the paperwork to DMV this coming week and have a new title created in my name with the correct VIN numbers that match the bike. Be aware that this process can take 10-14 business days to complete, which will occur after the end of the auction. Any active bidder who is not able to wait for this process is welcomed to retract their bid. My apologies for the confusion and lack of accuracy on this auction. On Mar-18-14 at 14:58:59 PDT, seller added the following information: 3/18/14 Spent 3 hours at the local DMV office getting the paperwork switched to my name. They would not correct their own error on the VIN without me hauling the bike back down there for THEM to inspect/verify the numbers that the CHP had already done correctly the first time around... :>( Once the verification is complete, the paperwork goes back to DMV, they will issue a temp registration and then Sacramento DMV has to reissue the updated title... in my name with the correct VIN numbers. On Mar-19-14 at 20:14:01 PDT, seller added the following information: 3-19-14 Update: Successful DMV trip on the bike today to get VIN verified and corrected on the pending pink slip from Sacramento. Hopefully, a new title will arrive around the first of next month. I discovered that the previous registered owner had paid the registration fees and tags, so there will be a legal license plate on the bike within a week. Mechanical updates: Post ride oil leaks traced down to transmission output shaft seal, main crankshaft seal and the starter hub sprocket seal (which was installed backwards!). The neutral switch is DOA, however and I don't have a spare at the moment. Bike is running well and drives like a CB77 (not a Dream).... I am amazed at the number of people watching this auction and the page hits, as well. Thank you... now keep bidding!
