Vehicle Detail

1973 BMW R75/5 Be the coolest one in your group with this outlaw bike, or restore it to it's original more proper look. I have never owned a bike that has attracted more interest, and I have owned many. This is a special bike. When this bike was brought to me my original intent was to chrome the tank and make it pretty like all the other restorations I've done in the past. After walking past it in my garage for several months before starting the project I thought I just could never recreate the amazing look that the former owner/ owners of this bike had created. It told a story, even though I didn't know what it was I liked it. I left the look the way it was. I put drag bars on it, Corbin custom all leather cafe seat, new carbs, and got it mechanically right but kept it visually super tough and love it that way. Since the pictures in this listing round billet bar end mirrors and stock chrome side panels have been located and added which are a nice touch. I believe this is the long wheel base version of this bike. In addition you will notice this has the large wide tank on it which one of the former owners bought along the line or bought new from BMW with the bike, and then at some point painted black, and then scraped it back to copper :). I also have the small stock matching 'toaster' tank in copper that will go along with the sale along with all spare parts and shop manuals I have for the project. I originally put this bike together for my brother but he can no longer ride due to handicap. I would keep but have too many bikes right now. This bike could be restored if that's your thing as it's super solid and low mileage. Bike smokes a little from both pipes at start-up but it goes away when warmed up and runs solid. It gets a lot of attention and people ask a lot of questions about it. Its a classic 40 year old bike that is solid. When my brother gave me the bike it was not running and I spent a lot of time working to get it mechanically solid. I replaced carbs and spent a bunch of time working through electrical. This thing is a tank. This bike is being sold as-is and is available for inspection in Canton, Georgia. There is no warranty and sale is binding and final. Buyer is responsible for arranging pickup or shipping. The buyer will be provided with a notarized bill of sale, but no title as it is not currently titled. It has been licensed and insured by both myself and my brother (the guys in the pictures)so there is no problem there it's just that on a bike this old the state didn't require a title so I didn't get one. On Mar-11-14 at 19:57:40 PDT, seller added the following information: The Bike Is For Sale Locally And Seller Reserves The Right To End The Auction Early. On Mar-12-14 at 07:09:14 PDT, seller added the following information: As a clarification this is the TOASTER tank model R75/5 and the toaster tank is included in this sale. I do not have the chrome panels for that tank, but the original copper painted tank is included in the sale. Also to clarify all lights, blinkers, brakes, clutch, switches, key, headlamp, steering dampener, etc, work on the bike... It is in excellent operating condition and my brother and I rode it over 2,000 miles without issue. I explained above why I visually left it the way it is above but if you want a shiny paint job that is cheap and easy. I put a ton of work and money into this bike to get it where it is from the original back garage find that is was when it came to me. Good Luck Bidding!!! On Mar-14-14 at 15:05:03 PDT, seller added the following information: Ok, some additional info. VIN numbers on the motor and frame match. In addition, This is in fact a long wheel base version of the bike. In fact a very early version of it as the drive shaft was factory lengthened from a short drive shaft. It also contains both a kick start and an electric start, and I understand BMW shortly after this period went to electric start only models. It also has original chrome side covers and original under seat tool tray not shown in pictures. On Mar-15-14 at 17:10:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Alright guys I shot some videos today starting the bike and showing all functions working. I also a short video of riding. Let me know if there is anything else you would like to see. Bike fired right up and idled perfect. This thing is great. VIDEO OF BIKE STARTING AND FEATURES SHOT 3/15/14 http://youtu.be/dSx-92VWYJE http://youtu.be/J61pz1-s9XkOn Mar-18-14 at 12:16:37 PDT, seller added the following information: Please excuse the repeated updates but this bike has received a lot of interest and I'm trying to keep everyone's questions answered and people informed as auction progresses. This bike is sitting at about $6,100 in purchase, parts, and labor to get to the great running condition you see in the video. Polishing and paint is cheap and easy if that is your thing and can easily be done. I will include two shop manuals with the purchase of the bike. Feel free to contact me if you would like any additional information, pictures, or even a video. I'll do my best to get it posted before completion of auction. Thank you for the interest!
