RARE 1979 Mercedes 280SL European model convertible with hard top & soft top, manual transmission, A/C, low miles, EXCELLENT condition, garage kept it's entire life. Car is located in Atlanta, GA, USA Brief HistoryCar was originally purchased in Germany and then sold to an American Air Force officer. He brought the car back to his home in Montgomery, Alabama (hence no rust) and stored it for years in a closed garage, covered. He would drive it periodically and change oil every 6-12 months, only to keep everything in good condition. On January 11, 1999, because of personal health reasons, he sold the car to me, and again, the car was stored in my garage, covered (for the most time) and driven every several weeks (especially Springtime!) to keep it in good, working condition. The car has never been wrecked or damaged, and remains in full original condition with the exception of a new radio. There is likely no other such car in the US quite so rust-free, pretty, and solid. Why am I SellingI really hate to see this car go, if for no other reason than its rarity. It is a GREAT car and collectible, however the wife will only let me have one and I've always wanted an 1950s model Chevrolet 3100 Pickup truck (early 50s preferably). This car does not have a catalytic converter for emissions control and to improve performance. It also does not have the heavy rubber bumpers to sustain a 5 MPH impact. This car is original and comes with all parts that it came with from the factory, except for the new radio. All necessary documents are available for inspection. Also, if you would like to fly-in and view the car contact me and I can provide you with the address or arrange to met you so that you can view the car. I'm very flexible with my schedule so if you are serious about the car I am willing to assist in any way I can to arrange an in-person viewing and test drive. For legal purposes, buyer must possess a valid drivers license for test drive and be able to drive a manual drive transmission. I (as seller) reserve the right to terminate test drive at my discretion. PaymentA deposit of $500 is required within 24 hours for me to hold the car for you.
