Vehicle Detail

This 1949 Willys Jeepster was built some time ago, I bought in Ohio from the owners widow, who did not know any details of the build, but I have learned quite a bit about it. Although this car appears stock, it is not, and thankfully does not have the generic small block Chevy engine. The engine is a 1962 Pontiac 389 that is in good condition, if you remove the vintage Mickey Thompson valve covers the valve train is extremely clean, which tells me it was rebuilt sometime prior to me buying. The last photos show through the valve cover to the rocker arms, and you can see how clean it is. Transmission is Pontiac Hydramatic of same vintage, rear axle is a heavy duty 1961 Oldsmobile with large finned brakes. Transmission has a front seal leak that needs repaired and transmission serviced. The early Jeepsters were only sold from 1948 to 1951, and the 49 was the lowest production year with less than 3000 built for the year. This is one of the nicest, and possibly the only one in existence with Pontiac power. Hemmings magazine has identified this as one of the 20 most desirable convertibles from 1940’s to 1960’s. If you look through Ebay you can see these priced up to $50K. You can get into this car for whatever you want to pay since it is no reserve. It appears a body off restoration was done, and I can find no trace of body rust or rust repair. I have removed floor covering and door panels and no rust. Frame is coated with some type epoxy covering. Previous owners widow said her husband purchased in California, but I have no proof of that, I found a car transport receipt for the car that shows it came from Florida. No matter where it came from it was well taken care of. The paint and upholstery are in very good condition, there are a few chips and scratches which most older restorations have. Upholstery is rip free and looks new. The top and boot are expensive Stayfast material in excellent shape, and side curtains are out of same material and plastic parts are very clear. All molded rubber pieces are new including windshield rubber, vent window rubbers, gas filler grommet and door weather stripping. All glass is new and tinted light green. All chrome and stainless is in good condition with exception of front bumper which needs rechroming. Tires are bias ply wide whitewalls, and appear in good condition with no cracking, but age is unknown. Front axle is unidentified brand solid beam (like an early Ford or a Gasser) equipped with power rack and pinion power steering and parallel springs. Rear shocks are air assisted, and new air lines are needed, but shocks work fine. There are many new parts on car, added by both prior owner and myself. Instruments added are new white face Stewart Warner Wings. There is also a matching tachometer that I was going to install in a chrome cup. All are functional with new senders, the sender for the speedometer needs to be installed on transmission and wired to speedo. All parts are included for this. Other new parts included or installed: All new wiring and fuse block One wire alternator Optima battery Brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hoses, shoes, hardware, speed bleeders, etc. New Lokar emergency brake (cables installed, handle needs to be attached by new owner) Grant steering wheel (not installed) Electric fan (not installed) Radio and new Pioneer speakers, radio has digital input but looks old style. New side mount antenna. Edelbrock performer electric choke carburetor and air cleaner. Electric fuel pump at tank New Holly high performance mechanical fuel pump (not installed) Fuel tank was vatted and epoxy coated inside and out with new larger metal pickup tube installed. New metal fuel lines front to rear Other stuff I know I have forgotten. As far as I know the only parts you would need to buy would be a nicer steering wheel, as the one I bought does not really fit the vintage of the Jeepster but is included so you can use it or sell it. This car appears to be a very nice old school quality build. You could drive this to Goodguys, and would have plenty of admirers. Cruise top down with plenty of room for your family or friends. Plenty more photos, just contact me with any questions. Although the description below states there is a lien, that is not the case, it is a clear Texas title. I am selling this car with no reserve and a very low starting price. I have recently had some severe medical issues including a stroke that prevents me from completing the car (95% done now) an doctors will not even release me to be driving. I looked a long time for a Jeepster that was not a rustbucket and I am proud of this one, but circumstances seem to tell me to sell it. This is a unique street rod that the entire family will enjoy. NO RESERVE
