Vehicle Detail
First I would like to state that I have been a restorer for over 2 decades. As with a good number of people in my line of work, I get “leads” for vehicles to look at. With television shows showing how many “barn finds” are out there and how easy it is to go and purchase them I would like to go on record that this is simply NOT TRUE. Now on to this great car. Yes it was purchased from a dead man. I got word of this vehicle and made arrangements to go and look. I was SHOCKED to find, not only what had been described, BUT MORE. Much more. The photos are as I found this car. As far as the story, well it ended /started again in 2008 with the last owners death. He obviously had a passion for cars, as is evident by where it was and what all was around it. Truly a “man cave” for a car guy. This car has 2 rust issues, they both are a result of the convertible top “well” not draining correctly and the rust started as you can clearly see in the photos. The rest of the rockers and the entire under carriage is in great condition. The rust on the hood is not anything serious and the rest is surface stuff. I have not gone into a racing history of these few rare cars because if you are still reading this, you already know about that. 150(?) H.P., a 5 speed gear box and disc. brakes ,make for a screamer of a 2000 pound car. I will let the photos speak for the car. To some it’s junk, to me it is a GREAT place to begin. Since these photos were taken, I have removed the spark plugs and lubed the cylinders and let it sit for a few days before attempting to start. I have drained the oil, fuel tank and flushed the entire fuel system and rebuilt both carbs with kits that were in the parts pile. The hydraulics for the clutch and brakes are both down. With the extra parts comes a remanufactured clutch master cylinder. As seen in the photos it comes with lots of parts.Too many to list but here are some: all rear lighting bezels and lenses, new tach cable, clutch PPlt,timeing gears and chain, several dist caps points and condensors, shifter boot, hot water shut off and hose assbl.,DATSUN emblems, new "top boot" etc... I have DRIVEN THIS CAR at my facility and it is a screamer, and a damn fun ride without ANY brakes. The engine starts ez and will idle at once. The throttle response is fantastic and it sounds great coming out of the small muffler .The exhaust is solid. The steering is firm and has no slack in any way. The engine has only 1 issue, that I know of, in that the water pump is leaking, but there is a brand new one in the “parts pile" All of the glass is in great condition as is all of the stainless, and the top frame is too. The paint on the engine is a strange green, I have no idea if it is correct, but it is fresh, leading me to believe that this, matching numbers engine has been out of the car and at least somewhat refurbished. It just runs too well to be this old. (In my opinion).Engine runs cool and flows good water. The oil pressure at idle and warm is 35psi. Feel free to ask any questions. I WILL NOT SELL ANY PARTS SEPARATE FROM THIS CAR. I will assist in shipping, world wide, and have done so many times. My shipping zip code is 78413 and the car is now located in Corpus Christi, Texas and is inside at all times. If you wish for my shops to get the brakes and clutch system up I can do that for actual cost.( $300.00 to $1000.00 just depends on parts cost) To come clean, I have very little idea what this car is worth. In 30 years of this business I do not remember ever seeing one sell at auction. I certainly have never owned one before. This is a no reserve auction. Low or no feed back bids must contact me or I will cancel your bids and block you from bidding. High bid owns it. I do NOT take money orders or cashiers checks. On Dec-16-13 at 17:58:02 PST, seller added the following information: as a restorer.I have done what it takes to determine if I wanted to restore this car. It is a PRIME canidate.VERY minor rust issues ,great powertrain, great body, very little ,if any, previous body work.GREAT place to start. In MY business this car is As a matter of fact, paint interior ,top.....go on.In my shops. 100 point car.....7k?
