Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a running and driving 1963 Lincoln Continental Convertible. This is the same color and year of Lincoln Continental Convertible that John F. Kennedy drove to the Carswell Airforce Base on the way to Dallas, Texas. (That car had a red interior) The interior upholstery on this car was redone sometime recently in black vinyl. It is in very nice shape, with no rips, tears or staining. The seats have a nice soft feel. The carpet is good, but has some unraveling in the front passenger foot area. The door panels are all in nice driver condition. Interior trim and bright work is all in nice shape with very little corrosion. The dash panels are all very nice looking with bright chrome. Exterior trim is all in very nice condition. Bumpers are very nice with almost no rust and only a couple of minor dents. Chrome is bright and shiny. Overall very nice driver quality. Dash board is uncracked and does not appear to have any distortion or notable discoloration The windshield is in very nice shape with no cracks or stars. The engine runs smoothly with no ticks or other funny noises. The carburetor is not the original. Valve covers are incorrect. I could probably locate a set to go with the car if you would like. There is no smoke at startup. I had a top national Lincoln mechanic listen to the engine and he said that it sounded very nice. Brakes work fine (including master cylinder and brake booster), but will need some attention (some leaking brake cylinders, etc). Parking brake works but currently sticks on partially. Transmission shifts properly. Steering- Overall, the steering column is tight with no play. Power steering works great with a quiet pump. Center link has been replaced recently. There is not much front end play when moving the car at low speeds. Could use a set of steering gearbox spacers, which I will include with the sale of the car. The car was street tested, but not on the highway. Rag joint is in nice condition. Exhaust manifolds do not have any leaks. Exhaust system needs replacement Windows- Window switches have all been rebuilt in the last two weeks. Both front vent windows work great. Passenger front window goes up and down great. Passenger rear window tries to go up. Driver side windows do not work. Rear Door Auto-drop does not work. Radio works great, but the antenna motor does not work. Heater blower works smoothly and quietly in all speeds. Wiper switch needs to be cleaned and freed up. Vacuum door locks do not work. Exterior lights- Headlights, rear turn signals, brake lights all work. Front turn signals, have broken wires. Top System- The top does not work, but all the parts are in place. This will need a thorough work-through. The top frame appears to be in very nice condition with intact original paint and no rust or corrosion. The top cloth is in very good condition with no holes or tears. The rear plastic window will need replacement. Currently the hydraulic rams are disconnected, so you can get into the trunk by just lifting the lid. The top is not locked in at the header, so you can manually put the top into the trunk. The body is very straight with nice alignment of seams and body panels. The car's original color code is "M", which is Ermine White. The paint needs to be redone, but if you just wanted to drive it, you could spend several hundred dollars with spot sanding and touchup and it would look nice cruising down the road.Package Tray- The package tray is in very nice condition with only a small amount of surface rust.Rear Deck Lid- The rear deck lid has some surface rust at the seams on the underside of the lid. It has a couple of tiny holes at the rear left side. All easily dealt with as part of its next paint job. Overall, decent shape. Rust- There is rust-through and evidence of bondo repair in the right rear quarter panel. There is evidence of bondo repair at the left rear wheel well front edge. There is obviously surface rust on the body, but no holes other than the right rear quarter panel. When cleaning up the car, we buffed most of the surface rust off. (see photos) The underside has consistent surface rust, but little rust-through. There is rust-through in a seam below the driver's seat. Tires are bias ply style with 2/3 of the tread still on them. No apparent rubber rot or cracking. Rear shocks have been replaced somewhat recently. Gas Tank- Appears to have been replaced within the last 10 or 15 years. NEEDS- In a nutshell, this car is complete, with almost all original parts. It sorely needs paint and bodywork, and attention to the top and window systems. The overall condition of the interior and exterior trim and upholstery is very nice. The engine runs, the transmission shifts, and the car is driveable. This would make a nice driver and could be back out on the road quickly if you wanted to jump into the project this winter. I would not recommend driving this car home. It has not been thoroughly road tested and the systems will have to be gone through to get everything into reliable condition. The parking brake sticks on a little, but the car easily drives around and will go onto your transport truck with no issues.
