Vehicle Detail
For your consideration in this auction listing is a very nicely restored 1973 Honda CL350 K5. This bike came to me as a "basket case", but had a clear title and was in remarkable condition as far as straightness and absence of rust. The motor turned over and shifted. No attempt was made to start it at that time. Since then, much work was done that I will describe below. The bike was completely disassembled, all nuts and bolts cleaned and the frame stripped. Center kickstand, passenger foot pegs, and steering lock were cut off. Engine mounts (rear) were welded on. The frame was primed and painted black. The fenders were cut to shape and painted gloss black (VHT). The engine was disassembled and sent to Bearing Service Co. in Portland to recondition the cylinders, pistons and valves. The engine was painted with zinc chromate primer and VHT Universal Aluminum and cured in the oven as per instructions. The engine was reassembled using new rings, valve seals, new gaskets and O rings. New head studs (with the correct flow restrictors) were installed. A fiberglass molded seat was ordered, backed with 1" plywood and fitted to the frame in line with a NOS Benelli fuel tank. The triple T was stripped and polished. The wheels were disassembled and polished. The forks were disassembled, polished and filled with mineral oil. New Dunlop tires were purchased with tubes and new spokes were mounted by Portland Motorcycle Wheel Co. Side panels were fabricated and painted. Dirt bike pegs were obtained. A Clymer service for this bike is included along with many of the receipts. I'll list below the items purshased for the bike and installed to complete the restoration, although I'll probably forget a thing or two. Bike itself $350 Engine/Head work $325 inc. rings Cam Tensioner $30 Head Studs $34 Glass Packs $Came with the bike Tires and Tubes $185 Spokes $100 Tire/Spoke mounting $120 Seals and gaskets $69 Fuel tank $120 (Clean, original paint Benelli, has original break-in schedule printed on top) Petcocks $70 Fuel Tank Cap $50 Seat $125 (1959 Austin Healey Tail Light $55 30mm Mikuni Carbs w/ cable $367 K&N Air Filters $50 Dyna Coils $160 Chain $50 Turn Signals $36 Turn Signal Flasher $15 Handlebars and Grips $30 Ground Cable $5 Battery $50 Spark Plugs and Cables $26 Misc. Paint/ Oils/ Supplies $100 Mirrors $30 Total $2,552 I put the whole thing together, started right up and ran it around for only about 50 miles. I like working on bikes more than riding them, I guess. The only change since then was adding two new 30mm Mikuni carbs purchased and set up by Speedmoto in Eugene, Oregon. Chek out their website. I have not even put gas in the bike after that. I can only assure you that it ran like a top with the old carbs and should fly now. All electricals function normally. The headlight is wired to be on when the key is on. A "bright headlight" indicator bulb is still needed. Brake and turn signal lights work well. My starting bid is really less than I have in the bike for parts alone (plus the engine and tire labor). Nothing is added for the many, many hours spent on this project. I am willing to help with any shipping needs a buyer might have (within reason). Unfortunately, Ebay couldn't confirm that the end time shown in the first listing of this motorcycle was, in fact the correct end time seen by buyers. The bike is still for sale and hopefully there will not be another glitch with the time. Sorry.
