Vehicle Detail
BEING SOLD WITH NO RESERVE This is a 1of 1 1980 Pontiac Trans AM Turbo Pace car with 17K miles. PHS documented Pontiac Development / Test Mule. This car is code named and known to GM as Car P210 Project 26-1853-002. The time and date stamp is 0004 and was the fourth car off the line. PHS docs state this is GM's Pontiac Divisions development car or pre production Pace Car. This is a Norwood Ohio built Trans AM. THE STORY After this car was assembled it was sent to the GM proving grounds. The car was used as a rolling test facility or bench mark to the cars that were going to pace the actual race at Indy. This was a proud moment for Pontiac and it was taken very serious. The suspension and body was modified for high speed. The car was reworked and tested. There were experimental work orders found in the car by the original owner. The experimental work orders (which should not exist) were signed off by the famous John Callies. Yes, John was the engineer at GM in charge of this project. The name should sound familiar as he is very well respected in the entire automotice industry. He has been involved with preformance Pontiacs and has started numerous aftermarket high performance engine parts since leaving GM. Currently supplies lifters to several Nascar teams. The front suspension was lowered and still retains its intended stance. You can compare this to a stock T/A with its nose in the air. Also noted is the crude rolled rear fender lips. Seems the spoiler was doing its job a little too well pushing the rear body down on the test track. It was also the first Trans Am to be fitted with a light bar. There is alot of speculation as to if this car was an actual pace car. There are pics on the web of a Trans Am with the same light bar. Due to the length of time it has been since it was built many who were involved with the project can't say for sure. Some have said yes others say no. Some are unsure. What is for sure is the car itself. This is Trans AM Pace car #1 A Pontiac dealer in AZ aquired the car from GM. Many have stated that it is remarkable that GM let the car leave in the first place. It was in the service area at Sun Pontiac and was spotted by what was to become the original owner. The owner of the dealership didn't have the car for sale and knew its story. He had intended on keeping it. The gentleman was able to talk the dealer into parting with it. The dealer had told him it was used as a pace car. I have all the purchase docs. After purchasing he drove the car very little and parked it in for good in 1988. The family fell on hard times and lost their home. Still refusing to sell the car It was at that time the car sat out. The owner passed about a year ago and his wife gave up ownership and sold it. The patina is fantastic on this survivor and still has the strobes on top along with the wiring that was installed to power it. You can still see where the large white block letters across the windshield and also across the rear glass that spell out PONTIAC are still visible on the glass. No replica cars had the window lettering only actual cars. Also seen are the engineering code number decals. This car has modified suspension and rolled under fender lips. There are still holes in the rear frame crossmember where pace car flags were stuck through the rear bumper and mounted. Original exhaust including the catalytic converter. All original GM belts hoses. Markings under the hood and even under the car still visible. Runs and drives although it has been driven a short distance local. It has been off the road since 1988 and would still require the usual tuneup/wakeup that you would do with any vintage car. The tank was cleaned and new fuel added prior to my ownership. The interior will need freshened and or restored to be mint but is useable as it is. To be mint will need restored however it is presentable as a survivor It's all about documentation with all and especially high end collector cars and this car has it. Lots of paperwork AND the original title. This would be an easy $50K + car and unlike the other Trans AM's available this is #1. Many other Gen II Trans AMs are available with lots of miles and mods with little to no history. But forget the historical aspect. It is a Gen II Pontiac Firebird with no rust and no rust repair/bondo/trouble with 17K miles. That alone is collector appeal. Buy something now that you can have fun with that will appreciate faster then your 401K NEED TO SELL YOUR CAR FIRST? I'LL CONSIDER PAYMENTS OR TAKE A PARTIAL TRADE ON AN AMC AMX OR JAVELIN/ AMC PARTS ETC. I AM SELLING TO FINISH OTHER PROJECTS AND THEY ARE AMC'S. I LIKE UNIQUE AND YOU WILL TOO YOU. BE ADVISED THE SALE COULD END AT ANY TIME SO PLEASE EXPRESS YOUR INTEREST EARLY. **QUESTIONS ** If you have a question please use the ebay ask a question tab.Using the Ask A Question tab is just easier for me due to my work schedule.
