Vehicle Detail
I have owned this car for last 25 years. I sold 2 other 240z's on ebay . I have included picture of both Orange IMSA 240z and Prima Donna Z. I have owned Z's since 1974. I was friends with the original owner Bruce Donaldson who purchased this car new from Sherwood Datsun in Johnson City, Tn in 1971. We auto crossed from 1976 - 1980 all over southeastern states. I learned everything about these cars from Bruce and Local Datsun Expert Jimmy Riddle. Bruce sold this car in 1981 for 5,000.00 to a local enthusiast who used to come out and watch us autocross. He was going to do a total restore on car but only ended up installing flares on front and rear. I bought car from him in early 1987 and have owned for last 25 years. I do not want to sell but because of business venture I need the money. I built the engine with 280zx turbo block, 280zx turbo pistons and 280 turbo rods. P90 head with over 2,000 worth of porting and polishing and mild cam shaft from same company that Paul Newman from Bob Sharp Racing got his camshafts. Engine was cleaned, honed, crank polished and balanced by Local Well Known Whites Racing Machine Shop. Tilton Racing 11 lb aluminum flywheel, Mallory unilite distributor and crane coil. Front Brake calipers are Toyota Truck Twin Pistons Calipers. Transmission is from 280 zx turbo T-5 Borg Warner. 5 speed and R 180 4.11 Rear End. Adjustable cam and caster bushing in front and rear. Datsun Competition Adjustable Front and Rear sway bars. These have adjustable linkage and multiple holes in sway bar to adjust stiffness. The suspension is Mulholland Racing springs and Carrera Racing Shocks. We modifed struts to make them 1.5" shorter to achieve more shock travel with lowered springs. We use to run Koni shocks and because of valving being shorter with shorter springs they would eventually fail. Bruce called Carrera Racing in Atlanta and they came up with shocks for front and rear that were shorter. This allowed us to get entire original shock travel length back that match original. I have numbers and pictures of front and rear shocks when they need replacing. Shorter Datsun competition steering knuckles to make car steer quicker and 1" bump steer adapter to make steer easier and correct suspension geometry. Delrin Urethane bushing replaces rubber bushing at steering and new bushings at rack and pinion steering.Holley Competition electric Fuel pump and also manual fuel pump. 1971 SU Carbs Cleaned, rebuilt, and tuned. I had a custom exhaust that I helped exhaust shop design and install. It has 2- 2.25" exhaust pipes with 2 - 2.5" Walker Turbo Mufflers. The reason I ran 2 exhaust pipes because the guy that bought it to restore cut part of spare tire well to make 2 pipes fit into original outlet area. My advice would be to buy a fuel cell and either keep both exhaust to one side or install the dual exhaust on each side. Wheels were custom made by American Racing 15 x 8.5. I had 245/50/15 but could not find size when I replaced. Currently 225/60/15 Rear and 215/50/15 front. 245/50/15's clear great with no rubbing. Also 225/50/15 works also. This is one of best reving engines I have built as it will easily hit 7,000. Compression is about 10.75-1 and runs great on Premium. You can achieve higher compression with these P-90 heads if setup right. I built a 3.1 stroker and it was 11.5-1 and ran great on premium running 38 degrees total advance. I will have to add a few things later such as links to you tube videos and some more pictures. It does need interior work. The seats are from Pontiac Fiero that needs upholstered. I have seat covers on them. The light switch needs replaced but I have a temporary toggle for headlights so that bright and dim switch still works. Great CD AM FM Player with speakers. Mechanical Oil Pressure and Water temperature gauge are new. My advice on interior would be to redo with new carpet and redo seats or buy new seats. All other lights headlights, dash ,turn signals,&side markers work. The paint job still looks ok but it still needs new paint job as there are numerous chips and cracks. Flares are still tight but my advice its time for new paint job. There is no rust in body except small area under battery box and one spot behind drivers seat area. I will show some pics in my later picture connections. I forgot about front sway bar connections have been reinforced with 2 plates of 1/4" steel each side where sway bar mounts to frame. I have always tried to reinforced this area on all my z's. The rear taillights are 280z as we had always wanted to install these and front grill is similar to 280 except we custom made it. Front Air dam is Urethane 280z style. I will add a few more things after I get it listed. On Oct-17-13 at 17:26:23 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to post question and answer Question: would you know if wayne fields done the flares, he was doing Z's during that time. Thanks! Answer: No I think a body shop in kingsport did flares. I cannot remember the name but they were there for few decades. Wayne used to do all work for me also. Me and Bruce pulled many long nights working on our cars at Waynes. Wayne did the first paint job on this car with Imron around 1979. Wayne sanded and touched up any imperfections. He said flares appeared to be ok. I took the car stripped of motor and interior on a trailer to Waynes place to sand and then we took to the dealership he was working at the time to have a good spray booth. The paint is Acrylic Enamel Porsche Guards RED - mikelynnhill On Oct-17-13 at 17:55:50 PDT, seller added the following information: Oil Pan came from Datsun Competition 8 Quart baffled with special pickup. Original cost back in 1980 was about 750.00. Headers come from company in Georgia that Jimmy Riddle had special built headers with better flange and better flow.I do not know the name I told him to get me a set made when I was building car. I am posting couple of videos tonight. I am making a couple more tomorrow with more pics also. http://youtu.be/XFGfYm_YY-A On Oct-17-13 at 18:12:35 PDT, seller added the following information: http://youtu.be/eblsHtIV_qE On Oct-17-13 at 19:10:17 PDT, seller added the following information: http://youtu.be/w0AT2q_VQOA
