1962 PONTIAC TEMPEST COUPE W/RARE LEMANS PKG, AN ON FRAME RESTORED DRIVER, NEW PAINT GOLD W/MINT TAN INTERIOR, REBUILT PONTIAC 195 CI / 3.2 L 4 CYLINDER MOTOR (TROPHY 4), TURN-KEY DRIVER GREAT FOR LOCAL CRUISES & SHOWS OR GO! I like to write about my cars.... This is a sweet little 1962 Pontiac Tempest Coupe w/rare LeMans option pkg. This particular 1962 Pontiac has been restored to use and enjoy. It can be driven with confidence to local cruises and is restored to use as a daily driver on fair weather days. It is a legendary 4 passenger classic car with a sexy unique look that stands apart from the crowd. This is a very cool classic Coupe. FYI; the history is as follows, the car was driven by its female owner in Boston until 1970 when she passed, her husband was 90 and could not drive and so it was parked in his garage for 39 years until it was rediscovered by someone doing maintenance on the home it was at, then a loving mature owner breathed life into it again. He had painfully decided that after 4 years it was time to pass the torch on his beloved 1962 Pontiac to another enthusiast, me, who would have more time to use and enjoy it. The Details; The Body, which has just turned over 109,000 miles, was recently re-sprayed in base/clear coat in its original factory Gold color and was finished as a "daily driver" paint job and has an impeccable shine. The car has no rust issues. The hood, trunk lid, door and panel fit & is all up to standard. It has replacement rust free front fenders which the previous owner purchased directly from LA. It has original Pontiac Hubcaps that compliment the stock exterior. The chrome, trim, emblems and glass remain in good condition. The factory tan interior is like a time warp and is in excellent original condition with only new carpets installed & new mats. It has an optional deluxe steering wheel, 2 spd transmission, Wipers w/washer, trunk courtesy light, new trunk mat, working heater and more. It comes with the original owners manual & "The Early Tempests 61-63" 2013 Calendar & this Tempest is in the JULY page! This Pontiac engine will astound muscle car enthusiasts as it is actually the right half of a 389, so when you stand on the passenger side of the open hood it appears to be a V8. GM Pontiac was able to build the 389 & 195 on the same assembly line because of this, as they share the same parts for both engines! The shifter, a lever that goes up and down, is on the front of the dash just right of the steering wheel. You will see this in an interior photo I have below. The frame, floors & trunk are solid and a pleasure to see in this condition. There is also a new Heat Shield/ Hood Insulation on the bottom of the hood. The engine compartment is very nice for local shows and events. This Pontiac has always been garaged and was never driven in inclement weather conditions in decades. The Mechanics; The heart of this 62' Pontiac is its rebuilt Pontiac 195 Four Cylinder which had a valve job, new fuel pump, new fuel lines, water pump, the new Viton rear main seal, new piston rings, new rod bearings, new main bearings, new oil pump, new timing chain, new lifters and push rods, and new gasket set, alternator, all new brakes, nos wheel cylinders, new radial tires, wiper blades, new parking brake cables, the transaxle is from a very low 44k original mile car w/3:08 gears, new shocks, new upper ball joints and it runs awesome with plenty of power. So far, I would say about 400 miles is on the new motor. I put new synthetic oil in the engine 40 miles ago as the new gaskets are made to handle it. This car has been mechanically gone thru, well sorted and is an excellent running and driving car. The Options; 1962 Pontiac Tempest w/ Rare LeMans Option Package; • Rebuilt Pontiac 195 Four Cylinder Engine • Deluxe Steering Wheel • AM-FM CD Stereo (original radio is in the dash still) • Base/Clear New Daily Driver Paint • 2 Speed Wipers w/Washer • Time warp Mint Original Tan Interior • Detail in the engine compartment • Trunk Courtesy Light w/New Trunk Mat • Original Hubcaps w/Radial tires and so much more! Since I bought this car earlier this year I have done some updates after all the above information. I have two more extra new ignition keys & one extra trunk key already cut, I have a brand new center console that matches the interior and looks great in the car & it sits so tight between the bucket seats that I have elected to use it that way and not bolt it down thus giving me the option to easily pull it out for an original look, new drivers side door weather strip, new drivers side vent window, new "Tempest" badge driver side rear quarter & new rear view mirror. New halogen head lamps, new E-3 Diamond Spark Plugs, new Pertronix Flame Thrower chrome coil, new Taylor Cable Products 8mm Full Metal Jacket® Wire Sets, new Mr Gasket chrome valve cover cap, new Mr Gasket chrome brake master cylinder cover, new front wheel bearing chrome dust covers, new pontiac emblem valve stem cover, new trunk spare tire cover, new K&N Air Filter, I found a rare air breather snorkle extension, installed it and added my own ram air duct to it (it is difficult to see the extra air duct as it sort of looks like attaching to the end an elephant's trunk and is low out of sight) & 2 new tie rod ends. I just recently did a front end alignment. I finally found, ordered and installed today the three right front side fender spears, used, but nice. Also the extra parts I have for this car will be going with it. Original head lamps, original valve cover cap, original brake master cylinder cover, original day/night rear view mirror, new passenger side door weather strip, 2 new upper ball joints, 2 new lower ball joints, a new idler arm, original spark plug wire set & new points. The Bad: Some minor wiper scratches. 5 or 6 pin holes in headliner located by the driver corner that I covered with about 5 by 2 inches of white tape that matches the headliner so nobody ever notices it, including me. The pitman arm needs to be rebuilt, and if I keep the car I will not do it until winter so as to enjoy the car now. The rebuild can be done at Rare Parts, 621 Wilshire Ave., Stockton, California, 94203- ATTN Tech. Just leave your name, car info & credit card info inside the box with the pitman arm. For the time being the car handles well. Overall; This 1962 Pontiac Tempest LeMans Coupe is a cool classic car that was meant to be driven, used and enjoyed. It may not be 100% perfect but it is pretty damn close. It is a car that you will take pride in owning. Thank you for your sincere interest. On a side note.... I have a 78 Pontiac Trans Am that I have had since ‘91 w/ 69,000 miles completely original & like new, so for the first time ever I decided to sell or trade the TA for a '58, 65 or 66 full size Chevy car which if you click on the "see other items" near the top right you can see the TA...Please call 802-489-4079 after 11 AM Eastern Time for any more info on the Tempest or TA or to see the cars.... On Jul-22-13 at 14:12:54 PDT, seller added the following information: I am retired, so I could possibly help with driving the car to you for an agreed price for renting a return car, gas, motel etc. depending how far from me....
