Vehicle Detail
I am generally a "Purest" when it comes to the cars I collect. I have appreciation for honest and original cars in genuine Survivor condition. As such, I'm excited by factory applied original paint, untouched day-one interiors and numbers matching drivetrains. Cars in their natural form that tell their life story the minute you see them. My Wildcat Convertible fits all of those categories. Numerous nicks, chips and character marks, yes. But, unaltered, rock-solid and authentic in every way and at 48 years old, she's still presenting very well. 70,000 original, documented miles since new. This is the higher end Wildcat Custom model. Special ordered with the optional 425 cubic inch "Wildcat 465" Nail-head V8. The 425 was only available from 1964-1966 with '66 being the final run of the Nail-head engine family. Only the second year for the desirable 3 speed automatic transmission. Factory air-conditioning was also ordered. The car was driven sparingly from 1965 to 1985. Mileage reading in August of 1985 was 69,064. I have receipts that document all of the mileage accurately. The next record is from 1996 with 69,230 on the odometer. Current mileage is 70,638 and I am responsible for 300 of those miles. Driven less than 1500 miles in the last 30+ years. Servicing has been performed in the last few years to keep her road worthy and reliable. The car is extremely solid including the trunk and undersides. The original paint has age-related patina and the 100% original interior is in impressive condition. All drivetrain components are what you'd expect from 70,000 miles of use and the car is mechanically sound. For those that prefer the longer version of a description it is provided below. I will also make a few brief comments under certain pictures throughout the photo display. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members of my collection. I'm grateful for the kind words and compliments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observations and they may differ from your own. I welcome showing my Convertible in person to anyone with genuine interest. I live very near the Portland Oregon Airport and would gladly pick you up. Each photo shows the car clearly and accurately. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the car for yourself as possible. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My telephone number is 503-575-0404 and calls between 8AM and 9PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 7 days and is scheduled to end on Monday evening, the 7th of October at 7:30PM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I accept a genuine offer and the car becomes no longer available. *If you are outside of the U.S. or Canada, PLEASE contact me to confirm your bidding activity as genuine.* Everyone, please be sure to read my terms of sale located near the bottom of this screen. I'm a reasonable person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way. NO RESERVE AUCTION I did not set a reserve price on my Wildcat. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be sincere. I took every picture you're about to see. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my car and these pictures are true to her in-person appearance. Thanks for your time, DAVE The 48 year old interior is in impressive original condition. The carpet shows a little wear and there are 2 flaws on the drivers seat but overall, the insides of the car are in wonderful shape. Door panels and dash pad are mint originals. Buick had an interesting way of designating their engines. The 465 on the aircleaner is the foot-pounds of torque rating. The cubic inch displacement is 425 which was the biggest available and a rare option on this car. The top was replaced and is in perfect condition with a glass rear window. Lots of documentation and original books will be included. I also have the factory Build Sheet. This is not a theory or a guess. The authentic and total original miles are currently 70,638. I have driven the car a little since this photo so they will be just slightly higher. Just under 70 miles an hour the day I took all of these photos. Original chrome and stainless is very good. Some items show light pitting on close inspection but a high shine is on all brightwork. The exterior finish is obviously 48 years old and showing it's age in the form of numerous tiny chips and scratches. There is nothing to hide. They can only be original once and most of us are grateful to know what we have and the type of life the car has experienced. Many of her minor imperfections occurred while she sat ignored and untouched in the garage for all those years. Little things were stacked against her and other car doors opened carelessly lightly into her. In fact, my explorations of the car have only discovered 2 very small dings (photos provided). Otherwise, all factory body panels are extremely straight with nice gaps, fit and alignment. Many years ago when the the car was only a few years old the driver side rear quarter panel was involved in a parking lot fender-bender and a portion of that quarter panel was replaced and repainted. The paint in that area has lacquer cracked over time. All other body panels are 100% original and solid. During my ownership I have been over every area of the car extensively. There are only 2 very small rust spots. This one located at the very bottom of the drivers side front fender and a little in the drivers side rear quarter panel. Both very minor. This is the only panel to have been worked on. One of two small dings on the entire car. Although this flaw is very minor I do have a perfect replacement hood available along with lots of extra original chrome and trim. All glass is excellent and crystal clear. As mentioned previously, exterior chrome and moldings are all original and in primarily very good shape with slight pitting on some pieces. No photo has been altered. It would be incorrect and unfair to describe the car as a 10 or 20 footer. I hate that terminology and it normally pertains to cars that have been re-done to a low level of quality. This is an original car, not a low-budget restore. NO hidden body work or fillers of any kind. Nevertheless, she's still pretty from only a few steps back. This is the higher end model 1965 Wildcat Custom Convertible. All 4 original T-3 headlights are in-place. I have 6 original hubcaps. The tires are new. Besides the very small spot on the lower portion of the drivers side front fender, this rear area of the driver side quarter panel is the only other minor rust spot I've located during my hands-on close inspection of the car. Paint chip on hood. Close-up of small spot on drivers side front fender. Note: I have a MINT replacement section included for the next owner. 100% solid along the trim. Factory power antenna works perfectly. All lights work. Power top functions flawlessly. Glass rear window. Again, the original, untouched interior is in very good condition. Dashboard area has nice trim and brightwork with minor tarnish showing under close scrutiny. Everything works with the exception of the factory clock. All gauges, wipers, heater & AC, horn, etc, are functioning properly. Please notice the split on the drivers seat. Rear seat is perfect. Original door panels and rear side panels are MINT. They DO NOT reproduce these and they are impossible to find in this condition. The front seat repair and carpet replacement would be quick and inexpensive but I chose to leave her 100% original. Dash pad is also mint. Yes, the trunk light works. The trunk is all rock-solid with original matting and cardboard side panels still in place. Factory power antenna. Even all of the weather seal channel around the entire trunk is excellent. All original with only service related repairs. Battery, belts, hoses, etc, have been maintained as needed. The water pump, intake manifold and brake master cylinder were done fairly recently. Actually, the entire brake system was gone through just 500 miles ago. All new wheel cylinders, soft hoses, brake booster, and master cylinder were replaced. The brakes shake a little so the drums should be turned in order to stop smoothly. Shocks and suspension components appear completely original. The car drives very well but maintenance and routine repairs should be expected. Backsides of rear quarters are excellent. Undercoated when new. NO patch-work of any kind. Undercarriage remains all original and solid. Again, NO rust issues or severe corrosion on the undersides. There is light surface scale on the bare-metal components but certainly nothing that compromises the integrity. Very dry, intact and rock-solid. Mileage in November of 1985 was 69,118. Assembly line Build Sheet. Replacement engine compartment decals. Some of these are very hard to find. Clear Certificate of Title. Easily transferred to any State in the U.S. or Canada and exactly what Customs agents hope to have for smooth transport out of the Country if that be the destination. Untouched, low mileage original's of this vintage are becoming increasingly difficult to find. I have appropriate respect and appreciation for this rare Convertible just the way she is and she sits proudly among the other classics in my garage. Thanks again-____________________________________________________________ Terms of Sale: 48yr old vehicle being sold AS-IS: Please read and agree with the following: I have described my Wildcat honestly and to the best of my ability based on 25 years of owning and driving classic cars. This is a rare and neat car but certainly far from perfect. I have faith in the drivability of my Buick. I enjoy driving this car without concern but she is 48 years old and routine service and repairs should be expected based on her age and original components. If you are not comfortable with a sight-unseen purchase, please come see the car for yourself or have an independent inspection performed PRIOR to bidding. I will not be responsible for the decisions of others. I have the free and clear Oregon Certificate Of Title in my possession. I would appreciate the winning bidder contacting me immediately upon end of auction just so the lines of communication are opened. My telephone number is 503-575-0404 PAYMENT TERMS A $1000.00 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction ending preferably through PayPal just so we are both protected. Wire transfers and verifiable cashier checks are also acceptable. I'm an easy going person so if you need to make special financial arrangements please contact me BEFORE you bid and I'll try to help. I have been with the same bank here in Portland Oregon for over 9 years and the Management staff knows me. You are welcome to contact them for your own security if you like. *The remaining balance in-full is due within 7 calendar days of auction end in the form of secure funds.* Some banks and credit unions do not finance vehicles of this vintage. Make sure if you are financing that your financial institution accepts the year and value of this vehicle before bidding and that my payment time-lines can be met. Please have your method of payment arranged prior to auction ending. TRANSPORT - SHIPPING I am happy to be an active and hands-on part of this entire process from start to finish but the buyer is ultimately responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle and any pre-purchase inspections need to be done BEFORE auction ending. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly assist in loading and be present for the transport condition form and other reasonable help. Locating a transporter is the buyers responsibility but I can make recommendations and share the relationships I've built. Vehicle transport has become very reasonable. I personally use a privately dispatched trucking company. They have handled my transport needs perfectly for the last several years with careful handling, excellent rates and fast service even all the way to the East Coast. I will provide contact info at your request. Dependable Auto Shippers (D.A.S.) is a transporter that eBay recommends and my experiences with them before I started using only private carriers were just fine. My location zip code is 97214. Coast-to-Coast transport is around $1200.00 and even less the closer you are to Oregon. Shipping to Australia, Europe and other Countries has also become affordable and easy to arrange. *If you are outside of the United States or Canada, you MUST contact me to confirm your bidding activity as genuine.* If you are an eBay member with negative history or have a (0) or even a low transaction score, I need to hear from you just to verify your sincerity and accept your bids as genuine. We all started from (0) and I'm happy to give a leg up. I reserve the right to cancel bids at any point for these reasons. Email or phone contact is fine. Communication is all I ask. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if the vehicle is no longer available or otherwise SOLD. On Oct-03-13 at 09:28:13 PDT, seller added the following information: -Just a quick note- As a 10 year member of eBay I am grateful for all of the positive experiences I've had. Even though we don't know what each other looks like most of the time, I've met some great people over the years while finding homes for the cars in my collection and I stay in contact with many. Protecting the integrity of my eBay transactions as well as my fellow eBayer's is always important to me. This brief update is in regards to bids that I have removed/cancelled. Questionable bidding activity and bids placed from members with negative feedback history will get cancelled! Most of us walk a line to be proud of. It's important to me to protect us from those that don't. Take care, DAVE -Answer to a question I received regarding engine condition- I respond to every question I receive and most of the time I post those responses within the Q & A section but I thought others might be curious. I was asked if I had an engine compression test performed. Kind of an odd question but, okay. The answer is no. The motor runs like a Swiss watch and is church quiet with impressive power. There are no misses or hick up's of any kind, therefore, a compression test was not needed. Within that same question I was asked about oil leaks. My garage floor remains clean under the car. Now, when I first got her she had sat for several years untouched. There was a slight transmission fluid leak but that cured itself after being driven and getting things moving again. There is a thin layer of typical build-up and expected residue but currently nothing dripping on my floor. Everything reflects the 70,000 original miles. I love driving the car now and with only minor servicing I would take her anywhere. She doesn't even squeak or rattle. The brake system has been gone through but the drums should be turned and the day-one original shocks are somewhat soft but it's neat that they are still in-place. It's correct to say that she is very mechanically sound and I have no concerns. I hope this information was helpful.
