1957 Plymouth BelvedereOffered for sale is this very rare 1957 Plymouth Belvedere 2D Hardtop (not a post car), with a V8 engine; possibly a 318?, but most likely the 301 polyspherical heads 215 HP motor. Push button 3 speed Torque Flite automatic transmission. Showing (1) 74,645 miles (?) on the odometer. The car is complete and pretty solid, but will need to be restored. The car does not operate on its own now; the car did run and drive when I bought it a few years ago with the intent of restoring it to the level and beauty of Mr. Exner's big fin cars of the late fifties. Remember Plymouth's slogan "Suddenly It's 1960?"This Belvedere looks lonely, tired and kind of frumpy, now that it has been disassembled, but is solid and straight and the rust issues are not too severe. The driver's door and rocker panel (bottom frame/threshold) were damaged at one time when the previous owner had it - they owned the car for well over 25 years I was told - but I have a replacement door which will go with the car. The glass is in good shape , except for the windshield, which is cracked on the driver's side. The side windows will need to be tuned up and adjusted as needed. There is some rust (small holes) on the trunk and floor pans. The driver's side pan (under the driver's seat) will need to be replaced as it is too rusted out (this is the worst rust spot on the car). There is some minor rust (mostly surface rust), at the bottom of the doors, rocker panels, fenders, etc. - nothing too scary at all, but a fairly easy fix. The frame is very solid. Restorative work will require some new and/or replacement components as needed, such as mufflers, shocks, driver side rocker panel, battery, etc. The engine ran well when I last drove the car, but did smoke a little bit when first started. The car operated and the transmission shifted properly - not too bad for a car needing a restoration. All the trim and brightwork (stainless, etc.) is complete and in good shape/ Everything is inside the car/trunk. The bumpers are straight, but could be rechromed. Some body work will be necessary, but nothing too bad, mostly prep work for paint. Of course the car should be repainted. The upholstery needs to be redone. The car does not look great in its present condition by any means and needs restorative work, but it is well worth restoring and saving. How often do you see these beautiful big fin Plymouths?So, what is the bottom line? Here is an absolutely complete, rare and desireable automobile which will command great presence and value upon being restored. Perfect for the mechanically and restoration inclined person, investor or any/most MOPAR enthusiasts. This could be someone's dream car. Affordably priced with a reasonable and low reserve, the car will be sold to someone who understands and knows that a nicely restored Belvedere 2 door hardtop would command quite a handsome price at auction and/or would be a very nice and desireable addition to any collection.When I bought this Belvedere several years ago I was actually looking for a 1957 Plymouth Fury (the top model), but could not find one anywhere at any price, so I bought the next best thing (this Belvedere) with the intent of restoring it to its former beauty. The car was in good/above average condition for its age, but needed some work to get it to the next level. I brought the car to a shop and the restoration process was started. The car was disassembled and the body taken off the frame in preparation to send components for media blasting. As this took place I was acquiring a lot of extra and spare parts for it.Just as we were ready to send the car to the blasting shop, and preparing for the sheet metal work, I found the car that I actually had been looking for in the first place. I stopped the restoration on the Belvedere and had the shop put the car loosely back together (body back on the chassis, etc.) for costs of transport & moving. All; the parts/pieces removed from the car at disassembly are in the trunk and interior of the car. The engine/transmission are on a pallet. The car is not operable on its own now as most of the controls were disconnected at disassembly.After several years of owning the car, I have not done anything, it just sits in storage and I am now losing my storage space. I have also lost my initial desire to restore this car, so I have decided to sell it. I also have a lot of extra/spare parts (some extremely rare), which I will sell separately at an extra cost.
