Vehicle Detail

For Sale I offer my 1972 VW Bus, 'V-DOOB'. (Please scroll down for large pictures) V-DOOB has history as a Sundial Camper conversion, and as an '80's shag-wagon, complete with green shag carpet and hardwood floors & doors. The previous owner had done a full engine rebuild in March 2009, and had about 2000 miles on the engine when I bought it in early 2011. I have had much upkeep & restoration work performed to make her road-trip worthy, and reliable for long distance travel. Here's a comprehensive list: -Full Engine Rebuild, March 2009 (new crankshaft, bearings, seals, rebuilt heads, new pistons & rings). -Dual carbs replaced with single Weber progressive carb setup. -Removed Bosch 009 distributor, replaced with SVDA distributor from aircooled.net. -New heater cables. -New parking brake cable. -Fuel tank removed & cleaned. -New electric fuel pump. -New fuel sending unit. -New fuel line. -New OEM fuel filler cap. -Rewired heater blower & installed new, correct blower hoses, left & right. -H4 headlight upgrade - bright, properly-aimed lights! -Rebuilt brake booster. -New master cylinder. -New brake shoes -5 original VW rims - powdercoated white. -5 matched tires - Hankook RA08. -New Koni rear shocks. -4 wheel aligned. -New ball joints in front. -New rear axles - EMPI. -New engine compartment rubber seal. -Frame is straight. -Engine seal is complete. -All engine tin is complete. -Engine is clean, clean, clean! -Engine has been compression tested, valve-adjusted, strobe-scoped, and is tuned for maximum fuel economy and highway travel. ***RECEIPTS PROVIDED FOR EVERY SINGLE REPAIR & PART PURCHASED FOR THIS BUS SINCE I TOOK OWNERSHIP*** -The Fuel Vapor Exhaust System is incomplete! I've put about 1000 miles on this bus since purchase & rehab. Bus has been garaged at all other times, summer & winter. I have been running this bus with Amsoil or Redline 15W50 racing oil and K&N racing filters - they increase the engine oil capacity by about half-a-quart, and have a nice wrench fitting on the bottom for easy removal. Since the new carburetor & fuel system was installed, only premium gasoline (92 octane) has been run in the engine. The electric is rock-solid and all headlights, tail lights, turn signals, etc are functioning. Steering and shifting are both tidy and tight - there will be NO popping out of gear! A good suspension and correct tires allow for smooth cruising on the highway at 65-70mph. The heater boxes are in excellent shape and all tubing & controls are complete under the bus. You can defrost four nice round circles on the front window on a frosty day! Yes, there IS heat up-front! Interior: At some point circa mid-80's, a previous owner chose to install hardwood flooring (not laminate - real hardwood) and door panels. Also installed was green shag carpet, a shitty headliner, a flat-screen television behind the passenger seat, a massive Polk 1200Watt amplifier & speakers, and a mirrored party-bar - complete with recessed holes to put your shot glasses! I disconnected the TV, it needs to go. I disconnected the stereo head unit, it needs to go. I disconnected the amplifier & speakers, they're fully-functioning and really nice, but not for this VW.... they belong in a nice car audio system. Yes, those are white Pleather bench seats. Enough said! Body: Full disclosure - that's a hole in the passenger-side floor, just in front of the wheel well. I have no clue why the driver's side is fine, but the passenger side got so cranked? My intention was to rip out the interior, fix the body and put in a new stock bench seat setup. But it's time to move on. There is a small bondo spot on the right rear wheel well. It's painted and well-blended, but when I get real close, I can see it's starting to crack. I believe that's the only bondo on the vehicle. What's with the front-end and lack of VW Emblem?!?: Some idiot removed the original emblem at some point in the past. So I went and found an original chrome emblem, bought the appropriate emblem clips, and went to pop the logo back into place... Thwarted! All the emblem holes have been drilled out slightly, so even with the emblem clips (little neoprene grommets which slide into the holes and keep the emblem attached snugly to the front) the emblem will not stay on. Sadly, each of those holes must be spot-welded, then re-measured & drilled out again to properly attach the front VW emblem. But you will get a new pack of emblem clips, and an original chrome VW emblem as part of this auction. This bus also comes with extra parts & merch (detailed in pictures): -Old 009 distributor, removed -front air vent piece, used (221 259 205) -dash air vent, used -extra Heater Blower Assembly, Mfd in Germany by AEG, used (261 261 193) -extra hardware for powder-coated front & rear license plate holders -NEW accelerator cable for '68 bus (211 721 555D, received in error) -NEW clutch pedal linkage -TWO NEW clutch cables (211 721 335J) -NEW accelerator cable for '72 bus (211 721 555J) -NEW rear inner wheel bearings (211 501 287, set of two) -right-side 'warm air pipe' (runs from engine blower hose through engine tin & down into heater box, then forward through heat flaps to front of bus), used & rare! -Haynes Manual #226 (VW Transporter 1700/1800/2000 1972-1979) -extra linkage parts for new Weber Progressive carburetor -VW Emblem Clips (211 853 614, set of four clips) -Original chrome VW front emblem with pins intact -one extra ORIGINAL VW key blank. -extra K&N Racing oil filter (K&N part#HP-3001) -extra oil screen gasket set & drain plug washer (021 198 031B) -extra distributor cap (Bosch 1 235 522 056) -extra rotor (Bosch 1 234 332 215) -extra points (Bosch 9 237 013 044) -extra condenser (Bosch 1 237 330 220) -one gallon AmSoil 15W50 racing oil.
