Vehicle Detail
Thanks for viewing my 2001 VW Jetta. I am the second owner, I purchased this car in 2003 with 24k miles on it, and it had been my commuter car ever since. I just recently purchased an SUV and have decided to sell the Jetta. It is in overall good mechanical condition, however it may need a few items addressed to pass inspection in your state. I have provided the most accurate description I can of everything I know about the vehicle's current condition including a full disclosure of all known issues, as well as its maintenance history below. I've tried to be as accurate as possible and included my opinion of things that I think may not be a problem right now but should be addressed soon in order to ensure top working condition. My observations and assessments are clearly not as thorough as a mechanic's would be, so please be advised that you are bidding on a vehicle with 168k miles that may need additional maintenance either now or in the future. The vehicle is sold AS-IS! Please feel free to ask any other specific questions you have. It has been a wonderful car and with the 5 speed manual transmission is very fun to drive. Disclosures: - Had an accident. I got rear-ended in traffic. Vehicle was repaired at Antwerpen VW in Glen Burnie, MD. - I slid into a guardrail in a snowstorm. Repair was completed at Antwerpen VW in Glen Burnie.MD. (This event did not appear on the AutoCheck report.) - Somebody backed into my side view mirror in a parking lot, that was fixed at Barrett Chevy in Berlin, MD. (This event did not appear on the AutoCheck report.)- Trunk latch is broken. The switch and electronics are fine, the OEM striker is cheap plastic and broke. I did a DIY fix on it a few years ago but it failed again. It is an easily replaceable part that you could order or pull from a junk yard. The trunk can be opened by lowering the back seat and manually popping the latch. - Electric gas door lock broke. I replaced it once, but again, its a cheap part that broke again in 2 years so I took the locking mechanism out so it just opens manually now. Switch & electronics are fine, the lock/striker is what broke. It is another easily replaceable part if you wanted to fix it, I just didn't care enough to bother. - Has Check Engine light on, the last time I had it scanned it was an EGR (emissions stuff) code due to a bad catalytic converter that will probably need to be replaced to pass an inspection. I am not aware of any other engine issues, it runs fine and still gets good fuel economy. - Has a bit of brake wobble, probably needs the front brake rotors turned. - Tires are a few years old but in good shape except for a sidewall tear on one that is not repairable. The spare is on the car right now, the regular wheel is in the trunk. You will need to get the tire replaced immediately so you aren't riding around on the spare, even though it is a full size, I do NOT recommend driving for long distances on the spare for safety reasons. (the spare tire is OEM, therefore very old! I also noticed the lug nuts loosened themselves on the spare rim after I drove home, I never had that issue with the real wheels.) - Latches/handles for the glove box and armrest are broken. Both still open fine. - It leaks water on the rear deck behind the seats and in the trunk whenever it rains really hard. - Radio Antenna broke off (see picture) - Backlighting behind the heater/HVAC controls doesn't light up. I think it's a loose connection because I can get it to light by whacking it sometimes. - OEM floor mats are included, but they are pretty ratty - Timing belt will probably need to be done within in the next 10k. Cosmetically, the exterior looks good, there is no rust, but the interior is a little worn and it does have accident history however the title is clean, there is no salvage/reconstructed status. I've listed everything I think needs and should be done in order to get several more years of use out of this car. Thanks for looking!
