Vehicle Detail

If you are here, you probably already know this is the second water-cooled shaft-drive motorcycle built by Honda, the first being the GoldWing in 1975. Likewise of legendary reliability and long life. This basic model was brought out in 1978 as the CX500, with the same engine, but a naked bike. GL500 SilverWing came out in 1981, and this 1982 is identical. The engine is a true "hemi", that is a hemispherical combustion chamber, with the intake valve on one side and the exhaust valve on the other, with the spark plug in the center. Front brakes are hydraulic, dual disc. The Interstate option gets you the fairing, hard bags, and rear luggage box. The bags and the seat or interchangeable luggage box are secured by a lock. This bikee was owned by an older gentleman in Rhode Island, he set it up for touring, and he went as far as Indiana. He added the taller windshield, padded handgrips, throttle lock, thumb rest, and handlebar mounted mirrors. These mirrors are more rigid, giving you a better view than the original fairing-mounted mirrors, which vibrate some, (but not as bad as any Harley). He also recorded all maintenance since 2002, at 18,000 miles. He stopped riding due to health issues. I've had it two years, disassembled and sprayed it the original color, replaced the headpipes, battery, speedometer cable, and front tire. I didn't spray the inner face of the hardbags, if you look closely you can see the dark faded color, but I didn't think it would show much, and it would have required a lot of disassembly to get them right. Everything else I disassembled, removed trim, sanded, primed, basecoat, color coat, and clearcoat. I didn't spray the fairing either, because the surfaces face down and are shaded, so it was not faded like the fender, tank, and luggage box. You will never see better headpipes on any of these bikes, and I had one with only 12,000 miles on which the pipes were blued. The good, aside from what shows in photos: NOTHING leaks, and EVERYTHING works, even the cigaret lighter / power outlet. The tank has NO cracking or leaks, and the gas cock does not leak in any position. The seats have NO hidden cracks. Comes with Clymer manual for this specific motorcycle. The bad: edge trim missing on right side of fairing (I've seen for sale on eBay, but didn't notice mine was missing until recently) chrome on muffler has small rust starting, see photos. Rear suspension "creaks" when you get on, unless I get around to disassembling and lubing it. Of course you don't hear it when you start the engine. The hard hatch cover on the right of the fairing has a small crack, and the soft cover on the left is missing two snaps. It's registered and inspected, so miles will increment a little during this auction. CLARIFICATION: It made me put something in "title", but NH does not provide a title on a vehicle this old. When I brought it from RI I had to have a policeman stop in and sign off on the VIN to register it. I'll do whatever I have to do to make right in your state. WHY SELL? I just bought a 83 GL650, even nicer, plus I have a Goldwing waiting for me to get around to re-assembling. Wife needs her garage stall back. On May-31-13 at 11:15:19 PDT, seller added the following information: Added clarification, some Q&A that I thought would show up on this listing. (Not a basis to retract your bid, as one did on a previous sale I ran on eBay): It's registered and inspected in NH. No, I don't know their standard for rejection of tires due to cracking, but this bike and this rear tire passed inspection last year.. Someone asked aabout the front tire, it's new, and I think that's obvious from the photo. Further, NH does not issue a title for any vehcle over 15 years old, but most states (check yours) accept a prior registration as legality, and I repeat, I have current registration in NH. When I brought it in from RI, also no title, NH registry had me call a local policeman over to verify the VIN. On May-31-13 at 11:18:07 PDT, seller added the following information: PPS the charging system is fine, the battery stays up both on the road and in the garage.
