Vehicle Detail
Unrestored 1953 Ford F250, 50 year anniversary edition. Has not been on the road since 1981. Truck is from dry Idaho. Moved to Oregon in the last 10 years and has been in protective storage. Have clear Oregon title in my name. More higher res pictures here: More Pics Very complete example of unrestored 50's pickup truck. Pulled fresh from the barn and given a bath and put up for auction. Has that worn patina look that's hard to replicate. They're only original once! Truck was painted a lighter blue than original from the cab forward. You can see on the front fenders the light shade, then the original dark Ford sheridan blue, and finally the primer. The bed and rear fenders were not painted with the light blue. Has 8RT flathead V8, 239 cubic inch motor. Last year of the flathead V8 in Ford production vehicles. This is the correct motor fo this truck, but it's not know if this is the original motor. 8RT has the lowest compression heads for that motor series, used only on trucks. Otherwise motor is basically same as 8BA flathead. Motor is free and will turn over with starter. Have not started motor. Would minimally require carburator and distributor work, but realistically probably needs a complete going thru. Standard 4-speed manual transmission, with compound 1st gear (granny gear). I do not know the condition of the transmission, but it will go into gear. Clutch is not in working order. Brakes are not working. Parking brake does work, enough to hold the vehicle. Body is above average for this vintage of truck. There is one rust thru area right behind left front fender on cab. (See picture). I couldn't find any other rust thru on the cab. The back cab corners are solid. The rockers are solid. The floor boards and toe kick have most of the original paint, but there are some areas of surface rust and pitting. Structurally, the cab seems really sound. The doors shut right with good seems. The top of cab is not dented or oil-canned. The back of the cab is nearly dent-free with the exception of a small dent or two you can feel when you run your hand over it. There are some small dents on the doors and fenders (can be seen in pictures). Nothing major that would cause body alignment issues. Doors have holes from where non-stock side-view mirrors where attached (mirrors are not on truck, but included). These mirror mount holes will need repair. I would fix/patch those holes and revert to stock single mirrors, available on the after market. All the interior paint is original. Bed wood has been replaced. The outside board on both sides are not in great shape, but they'll support your weight so they're not completely gone. Seat needs some work. Looks like some springs have sprung on the driver's side, and the slide rails have more play than I'd expect. Passenger door glass is cracked, but intact. Driver's door glass isn't glass, it's plexiglass. Front and rear glass is not cracked, but front has rock chips. Vent glass is good but slight lamination separation on edge. The tailgate is missing a hinge, so it's held in place by one hinge and the latches. No rear bumper. Tires are old ply tires, but hold air and are fine for moving truck. I've not added air to any of the tires in 4 years. No spare tire. The wheels are 16", but they're not the split-rim variety, and are probably useable with modern radial tires, but buyer should verify. Has original F-O-R-D ignition key. The key went in the passenger door lock, but I couldn't get it to turn. Might require another key for door, or the door lock is stuck. There is no door lock on the driver's side. I guess that was standard back then to just have door lock on passenger side. Interior is complete with the exception of the headliner. The dash is very nice. All knobs are present, including stock heater controls. Has original heater, but working condition is unknown. Horn button is 1903-1953 50th Anniversary Edition button, which is obviously a one year feature. Mileage is unknown. I put mileage on listing form at current reading of odometer (64181), but I have no way to tell if that's original mileage. This is a nice unrestored mid-fifty Ford truck. It's not as desirable as its 1/2 ton little brother, and not the most popular year (1956), but being complete and unrestored gives it value that should continue to go up. Imagine truck as pusher truck at Bonneville, with your shop logo on the door. Being a 3/4 ton truck, you can haul your hot-rod and then use truck to push start it. Please keep the flathead, flatheads never die! Well, they do die, but popularity of this motor is as strong as ever, and it's very cool to see one in a mid-fifty series truck. Buyer to arrange transport/shipping. This is a non-running vehicle. Will roll and steer just fine, and the parking brake will hold. There are no loading facilities at truck location. I've tried to list everything I can think of to accurately describe the condition. If there are any questions, please ask online or call Scott @ 503-523-8780. Good luck with bidding!
