Vehicle Detail
1960 Fiat Abarth Began life as a 750 Derivazione from the Seattle area, and was raced in SCCA and ICSCC events throughout the Pacific Northwest in the ‘60s by Fred Heironymus, and in the ‘70s by Paul and Bev Scott . Even though it does have a 1961 Washington DMV registration (listing it as a Derivazione) it seems to have always been a race car. It started out light blue, but as the Scotts were also into Lotus, it was repainted yellow with green stripes in the 70’s. This is an easy project that would result in an outstanding genuine Abarth with good provenance. It has a very solid body that appears to have never had a serious accident or rust damage. The floors are original and require no patching or reinforcing. The body is better condition than you might expect from an old racer – a few minor battle scars, but easy to restore. The car was taken apart many years ago for renovation, and has yet to be reassembled. It has had suspension restoration, and includes a full race motor built by Paul Swersen at PBS engineering that has never been run. It also has a refreshed transmission, rebuilt disc brake calipers and a new front radiator along with a large number of parts. Included are two sets of Campognolo alloy wheels. Both sets are old. One set has never been used, while the more rare Abarth ones will need some light restoration work. The project seems to be mostly all there, but will need a few miscellaneous bits (ie: wiring loom, clutch/pressure plate, etc.) for completion. It does not currently have a fuel cell or a roll bar, making it a fresh canvass for you to build the Abarth of your dreams. I bought it with the idea of making it street legal, but have concluded that, with this engine, it would be best to put it back to its full race configuration. The Abarth does come with some history, including a couple of period track photos and a log book from the Northern Pacific Division of the SCCA listing four races in 1971 and one in 1974 running as a 950cc Berlina Corsa. A little investigation should reveal a great deal more history. While it does have a registration slip from the state of Washington from 1961, there is no Pink Slip or current title. This is because the car has not been a race car and has not been registered for the street. The car is located in Orange County, California. It would be possible to deliver it to a local shipper if needed. Despite the fact that parting it out would probably be more fruitful, I wish to sell it all together. Personal inspections are welcome. On Jun-03-13 at 14:43:15 PDT, seller added the following information: Sorry for the confusion - the car has always been a race car, and therefore does not have a pink slip. Also, it is a real Abarth as confirmed by the 1961 Washington state DMV registration slip and the SCCA log book from the 70's. The first guy to race it is still living in the Seattle area and also confirms that it is a 750 Derivazione. The data plate is missing. The car is for sale as a package. I hope to sell it all together, rather than bit by bit.
