Vehicle Detail

In 1988 Pontiac added a new option to it's Trans Am GTA model. The new “notchback” option for the 1988 model year replaced the large rear glass window with a straight vertical piece of glass and a fiberglass deck lid. Of the 9,765 GTA's produced in 1988 only 624 were ordered with the notchback option. This 1988 GTA comes equipped with the L98 5.7L Chevy small block 350. The L98 engine was rated for 230 HP and 330 ft. lbs of torque. This GTA is Flame Red Metallic in color with 17in gold spoke wheels and black WS6 center caps. I am the 3rd owner of this car, but it has been passed down through the family. It is a very well cared for car with TONS of documentation, including the window sticker and PHS Historic Documentation. All GTA models were equipped with the WS6 suspension package. This package included: · 32/19mm front/rear sway bar over the normal 30/19 · Spring rate up to 63N/mm from original 51N/mm · 1LE transmission mount, 1LE Panhard Rod · 275/40ZR16 tires · Better cooling capability · Free flowing exhaust This particular GTA NOTCHBACK has 88,220 original miles. This car is equipped with a 4-speed Automatic Transmission with overdrive that shifts smoothly through all of it's gears. The small block 350 starts right up and has recently had all filters and fluids replaced, all options work as they should. Here are some quick, but accurate descriptions of this car:Exterior: The paint is the original Flame Red Metallic, and is starting to show it's 25 year age. While still colorful, there are many rock chips in the hood, blistering of paint on the fiberglass decklid (a known issue because of the paint bonding issues they had back then) and some fading at the driver rear quarter. There was a painted pinstripe on the car, but it is faded of of the back spoiler as well. The sides are fine.Interior: The leather is in good condition, save for some cracking and a tear (now 1 inch missing chunk) in the butt of the drivers seat. The rear seats were never sat in. The headrest tops show very light cracking but the rear seat bolsters are in mint condition. The headliner is 100% perfect. The door panels are in excellent condition. The flooring is in great shape, clean, and no wear or tear.Engine: The engine is all original save for some replacement of air flow sensors and relays. The gaskets are tight and there is NO LEAKS whatsoever. It runs clean and starts the first time, every time.Electronics: All electronics, including the Digital Dash and Driver Information Center work perfectly. The steering wheel controls, radio, and power antenna work as well. The heating and A/C both function properly, however I would advise a recharge of the AC in the future.Serviceable items: Regular oil changes, have most service documentation from about 1990 on forward. Tires are about 15% worn and no slow leaks or cupping wear. Brakes are about 40% worn and still should have quite some life left in them!Rust: This car has always been garage parked. I have pics of the undercarriage. At last inspection (around December) the only surface rust seen was on the rear sway arm (the WS6 bar). The issue I see for rust is at the battery tray. When I replaced the battery about 6 months ago, there is a big hole where the battery tray is, likely from a leaky or bad cell. I can say that the rust is confined and localized to that tray. Overall, I believe the car to be an 8 out of 10 looks and performance wise. To make it a show car, it needs new paint and repaired upholstery for the front seats. Thats it.There was a listing this last week on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GTA-NOTCHBACK-/300895466578?_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&forcev4exp=true where a similar car sold for $9100. Theirs had cloth seats, analog dash, and a little lower miles. Mine has more options and leather. I would like to get the same or very nearby.
