Vehicle Detail
PLEASE READ THIS POSTING VERY CAREFULLY!!! Here we have a 1972 BMW R75/5 Short Wheel Base (SWB) a.k.a. a "Toaster". THIS IS A PARTS BIKE AND DOES NOT HAVE MATCHING FRAME AND ENGINE NUMBERS. Please also be advised that this motorcycle is currently registered in a state that does not issue titles on vehicles older than 10 years old. Therefore, THIS MOTORCYCLE DOES NOT HAVE A TITLE. IF YOU EXPECT TO REGISTER THIS MOTORCYCLE, PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR STATES' DMV REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS. This bike is in very clean condition and has an nice ride to it. For those BMW Riders in Northern New England, be it known that this bike was lovingly put together by our dearly departed BMW enthusiast friend Dave S. (May he ride in peace) Things you should know: This R75/5 has a 5 speed transmission instead of the original 4 speed.THE ACTUAL MILAGE OF THIS MOTORCYCLE IS UNKNOWN BECAUSE IT IS A RESTORATION FROM PARTS. The milage listed in the posting is what's currentlyon the speedometer and therefore DOES NOT REPRESENT THE THE ACTUAL MILAGE OF THE ENGINE. Also, the photo of the Odometer reading was takenlast summer and is now at roughly 1,980 miles. But as stated above, THIS IS NOT THE ACTUAL MILAGE OF THE ENGINE!All said, the engine is strong and solid with NO BLUE SMOKE. I acquired this bike in 2008 and here is what I've had done to it since: Piston seals replacedBRAND NEW OEM SPEEDOMETERNew ClutchHorn/Signal switch replaced with new OEM parts. The battery covers were re-chromed and painted.Replaced tool kit with new OEM version.Seat cover replaced with OEM part. The Pipes are newer OEM replacements that came from another BMW that I had.As an added bonus, this bike comes with an original OEM Owners Manual that I bought at a BMW rally several years ago. All repairs have been performed by an Authorized BMW Dealer/Service Center. Issues: There's still a small oil leak coming off the clutch pivot. I believe this to be due to a bad seal on the rubber, engine-to-drive-shaft boot. I had this same problem on another R75/5. It leaks just after a ride and eventually stops and is never more than 1/4 ounce at a time. The gas tank has a small dent on the left side near the gas cap. There are also some very some tiny scratches on the right side of the tank. There appears to be a small stress fracture on the rear fender under the seat where the rear mounting bolts reside. To the best of my knowledge, these are the only issues. Even though it's not all original, the bike is in very good condition. Everything works and it's ready to ride! I changed ALL the oils late last summer.I receive many compliments from other riders when I take this baby out (only on nice days). The tires are in good condition and have plenty of life left. I'm happy to answer any questions the best of my knowledge. I can provide more photos upon request. Pickup of the motorcycle is entirely the responsibility of the buyer.
