283/270hp, 4-spd, the ’61 was somewhat of a milestone Corvette. It was a year of firsts . . . and lasts. It was the first year for the updated body style that would last through the ’62 model run. It was the last year for the optional and very popular painted side coves that had become a Corvette design staple since ’56. It was also the last year for the legendary 283ci. small block engine.
