Vehicle Detail
This vintage Triumph road racer is styled after the infamous and highly sought after 1957 T100RS. The motor and frame numbers both indicate 1957 as the year of production, but the numbers do not match. There is a Texas title for this Triumph motorcycle. Motor: T100R 05111R Frame: 0951 Gearbox: 55390NA This bike was built, tuned, and raced by Gordon Menzie of San Diego, California. This motorcycle was also raced by Don Vesco in a couple of events. This Triumph has won many AHRMA races, including the 1995 Corsa Moto Classica at Willow Springs. There is a picture of Gordon riding this motorcycle on page 144 of Lindsey Brooke’s book “Triumph Racing Motorcycles in America”. We obtained this bike from Gordon’s garage, where it had been parked for many years. It has been on display at our shop for months, but now it is time to let it go. We flushed all the oil out of the motor and tank, and cleaned the sump screen. After refilling with fresh oil and cleaning the points in the magneto; it fired right up. The motor sounds really good, and the gearbox shifts through all the gears. However, this bike is not track ready. It should be thoroughly gone over and checked out before attempting any real riding beyond parading it around the block. Technical inspection regulations at the race track have come a long way since 1995, this bike will need to be updated to comply with modern regulations such as an oil containment device (Belly pan); and the required safety wiring of various plugs/nuts/bolts/etc. The tires have seen racing action and are over ten years old, so new tires should be mounted if you want to really ride the motorcycle. This Triumph has some really nice parts on it. Here is a brief breakdown Primary Belt Drive Late model Triumph five speed gearbox internals (This is a five speed) Lucas “green tag” racing magneto Akront shouldered aluminum wheels Later model Triumph twin leading shoe front brake Bates racing seat Dual 1 5/32’’ Amal GP Carburetors Close fin alloy cylinders with Delta port cylinder head We did not tear this motor down, so we do not know what type of camshafts are in it, or the compression ratio of the pistons. The motor sounds great; it may have been parked while it was still fresh. We have not verified the motor number with the VMCC in England, so we are not aware of the factory records for the motor or frame numbers. Gordon built this bike to be a racer, but it is beautiful enough to be displayed. There are no signs of crash damage, and the paint is in good condition. The aluminum and chrome could be polished up to shine more, but we liked the patina; so we did not overdo it while cleaning it up. You can see a video of the motorcycle starting and running below this description. There are several photographs that portray the motorcycles condition accurately. We will ship this motorcycle worldwide (except to the countries listed on our exclusion list, please click the shipping tab above this description for more information). We can handle domestic shipments. International shipping arrangements will be the responsibility of the winning bidder. We can have this bike crated for export for around $475, beyond that the shipping arrangements are up to international bidders.
