Vehicle Detail
Its a 1972 chevy c40 factory built tow truck. This is in a nice original condition. It has been garage kept for the last 15 years at least. I belive it was never left outside, but i can not guarantee it. This wrecker has a 350ci chevy gas motor which i belive is original to this truck. It has 54,000 miles on the odometer and the title matches. By the look and cleanleness of the interior i belive it is original. Although the front seat has seperated by the drivers door. The motor does burn some oil and ocasionally will foul the rear passanger plug. I would say a quart every 1000miles. Not that uncommon for these older 350's, but i think you should know. With in the last month i've driven it 300miles and its been good to me. This c40 has a 4 speed trans and a 2 speed rear giving you 8 forward and 2 reverse speeds. Double low is 1mph and top crusing speed is 55 to 60mph at about 3500rpm. trans feels good and hi low works well. it will on ocassion drop into nutural in the rear when accelarating making a right hand turn. Dont know why, and it makes no noises, goes right back in. The paint and body look great, but are original. there are some smaller rust spots here and there. I tried to take a picture of the very bad spot. The winch is 30,000lb and has 400ft of new cable on it. It will pull the front of this truck right off the ground. It is operated off a pto from the trans. It can be run from inside or both rear sides of the truck THis truck also has a repo style hydrolic wheel lift or eagle claw i guess their called. It is self contained in the bed and works and sounds great. Every option works from the AIR HORN to the heater, all the lights, the radio, the dash tack and guages, the inside and outside winch controls and all. I think the 56 chevy steering wheel horn may not work, but the TRAIN HORN WILL GET THEIR ATTENTION JUST FINE. it comes with all chains and straps to tow vehicles and I can give you a course on how to do it. I am sad to sell this. It has been my baby for 2 years now, but lifes situations change, and I want to set a land speed record in bonnieville, so this will give me the cash to do it. Im not a business, this is registered and titled in my name in nj as a Pickup. It keeps the insurance regular. Its a fun hot rod show pickup. I wouldn't buy it to run every day as a buisness. I do some scrap cars once in a while for extra cash and have towed a diesel UPS box truck that weighed 17,000lbs and it worked well. The wheel lift works good up to about a f350, then i had to step up to the bumper straps. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A RESTORED COMMERCIAL TRUCK, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. iT IS A NICE ORIGINAL TRUCK BUT IT HAS SMALL WORKING TRUCK FLAWS. I WILL BE HONEST AS MUCH AS I CAN. MY RESERVE IS ABOUT 50% OF WHAT I HAVE IN IT, OR ABOUT WHAT THE HYDROLIC WHEEL LIFT COST TO INSTALL IN 1995 OR SO. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND BE SAFE. I can be reached at 856 498 o637 or just ask on here. I will get right back to you. Please dont call after about 7;30pm, or i will call you back at 3:30am while on my way to work. Thanks again. On Apr-05-13 at 15:44:14 PDT, seller added the following information: I did not mention in the description that there is a dent in the front left edge of the hood and the grill. It can be seen in the front view of the truck. It looks like a small pice of conduit smacked the front of the truck at some point. these C40's are super rare, and this grill is almost impossiable to find. It does not affect the truck, but it is noticable. The rear of the truck, wheel lift, winches, and around where the rear bumper would be also has scratches here and there. It is the working part of the truck, and looks the part. Just examine the pictures. You will not be disappointed, just like being honest. This is the ONLY one of these i have ever seen. All c40 wrecker pictures have the lighter duty twin rotating boom. This is a one of a kind and the only one i belive with the heavy duty single boom. On Apr-08-13 at 15:43:49 PDT, seller added the following information: The next bid will meet the reserve. I have a reserve on it of 5,200. Due to factors beyond my control i am going to need to let this truck go. It is a Awsome cruise night truck, and would be the coolest thing around with a big diesel or a 454. Both fairly easy swaps. the current motor is good in its own right because fuel economy isnt too bad and 350's run forever..... Thanks again for looking and i hope the new owner cares for it half as much as i do. On Apr-08-13 at 15:51:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Some other options on it. Has working heat and controls, working AM FM radio Working historic correct beacon working DUAL FUEL TANKS AND GUAGES Working Tach throttle lock manual clutch Inside PTO control 30ft Jumper cables that plug easily into grill all chains for bumper straps high low rear dual working stacks with turbo mufflers. quiet enough to sneak through town, loud enough to wake the neighbors at 4000rpm. ALSO HAS A 2in square reciver for a ball or pintle hitch on end of wheel lift WORKS GREAT AS A MOBIL HOME TOTER. I have a pic somewhere, pulled a 50ft/16 wide 20 miles in nj will lift and lower ball on wheel lift
