Vehicle Detail
hypermotors Store We have finally decided to sell our labor of love. We purchased this car from an old man in Kansas. My mail delivery guy knew I liked old cars so he turned me on to this guy that was selling a bunch of old car parts. I went to purchase a Muncie M21 and when we went to the garage to get it I saw this original unmolested 1963 Impala SS convertible! It took me several months of begging and stalking but he finally relented and sold the car to me. I happily forked over the $10,000 and was able to drive the car home after being garage stored for 20 years! We had fun with it in stock form for a few years then the restoration bug hit. As you can see from the list below, the car has had an extensive amount of time and money poured into it. Every part that could be removed from the car was removed. However, the rear body was only lifted off the frame to replace the rear body bushings. All other body parts were individually removed, taken down to bare metal and then repainted and carefully put back on so that all the lines match up and the doors close factory new! The original top was lovingly soaked and scrubbed until it looked new. I did have to put a new rear window in it because the original one was cracked and faded. The top does have a couple of very small pin holes that I have put silicone over so it doesn’t leak. You probably wouldn’t even have noticed it but I just want to be very clear about the condition of this car. The high performance 327 was given the full works in that it was taken to a well known race shop and completely restored. Everything is new on the inside. The pistons are forged and the rods have ARP bolts. The block was bored with deck plates to keep it square to the crank. The mains were cut and line bored to make square with cylinders. The heads have new SS valves, bronze guides and chromoly springs. The studs are pinned, hardened pushrods, new rockers, and double roller timing chain were used. The entire manifold had the heat plate removed and all the crap cleared out. Everything is top notch and balanced. The transmission is a nice aluminum, original power glide with very low miles that has had new seals, gaskets, filter, and fluid. The front sway bar was replaced along with all bushings along with new front springs and shock absorbers. The steering box and linkage ties have not been changed and should be refurbished before being put on the road as there is play in the steering. The carburetor is a remanufactured 1963 SS Rochester carburetor that runs great. The ignition is a Petronix electronic unit. It looks stock but gives way more power and easier cold starts. The dual exhaust is 2.5” all the way from the manifolds back and has stock type walker mufflers. The convertible top needs new windshield seals, which I already have. All the hydraulic components for the power top were removed and replaced with new or rebuilt parts. The original pump motor was stripped , cleaned and put back together with all new seals. The original lines were all replaced with new, non-hardening lines. The left lift cylinder was replaced and the right was kept original. It still needs to have the fluid put in and bled out for it to function. The trunk was repaired in 2 spots and will then need to be painted. I have all the paint for the trunk. The windows all work perfect and will need the new seals that I already purchased put in. The rear is an open unit but I have a 330 positraction for it and also have a new pair of shocks for rear as well. I purchased all new door locks that still need to be installed. I have the following parts that will be included with the car. 1) A complete air conditioning system. Including all the controls, vent hoses and even the correct dash with the vent outlet. This is everything you will need to install factory correct AC in the car. All the controls and cables are there as well. I have the evaporator and the complete enclosure with the filter dryer. The AC pump was working when removed but should have new seals put in before reinstalling. An aftermarket AC will run about $1500 and I personally have never seen for sale such a complete factory original setup. It would normally take months or years to track down and buy all the original components. I figure this setup is worth over $2500. 2) A complete extra posi rear end. Set of axles, posi case, posi unit and very good ring and pinion. This option would cost $1500. So as you can see, there has been too much money put in this car and so many new parts that it’s mind numbing when trying to recollect just what all has been purchased for it. I have pictures of some of the restoration process showing the car off the frame and in pieces. This is the sixth year that we have worked on the car and we are just ready to let someone else have at it for a while. 1) Purchase of car $10,000 2) Paint/Labor $8,000 3) Motor rebuild by S&S $3,000 4) Tires and Wheels $1,000 5) Petronix Ignition $300 6) Dual Exhaust $500 7) Sheet Metal $700 8) Transmission (Era Correct, Power Glide) $200 9) Front Springs $200 10) Shocks (front and rear) $150 11) Power Top Kit $200 12) Top Cylinder $150 13) Starter $80 14) Fuel Pump $50 15) Trim $500 16) Fluids $100 17) Back Window $200 18) Door locks $75 19) Plugs $25 20) Hoses $50 21) Front Sway Bar & Linkage $100 22) Body Bushings & Bolts $200 23) Seal kit $300
