Vehicle Detail

1975 Lincoln Continental Mark IV Rare “Lipstick” Edition VIN: 5Y89A846276 I’m often asked where we find these unique cars. One of my best workers cruises the parking lots of retirement homes, Elks clubs, V.F.W halls and the back alleys of a well-known Scandinavian neighborhood here in Seattle. He can spot a seatbelt slammed in a car door a mile away… He even notices when a vehicle is driving down the road with a turn signal on just a little too long and positively twitches with glee when passing a car with metal bumpers. If you’re in the market for an original, smoke-free, vintage 1970’s two-door luxury car please give this bone-stock Lincoln your kind attention. You’re also welcome to contact me with questions or to discuss a sale before the end of the Ebay auction. My name is Mark Thompson and I can be reached at (206) 914-1173. HISTORY & CONDITION: On December 18, 1974 William Stacy stopped in at Puyallup Lincoln-Mercury about five miles east of Tacoma. For several years Mrs. Stacy had been urging him to replace their old car and he was finally convinced the time had come that fall. Passing by a gleaming new Mark IV Continental in the dealer’s showroom everyday on the way to and from work, it was all he could do to keep from telling her she’d finally be rid of the old Hudson Hornet by Christmas. Leasing was a fairly new concept for consumer purchases in the mid-seventies, but the salesman assured him it would be the quickest & least costly way to get behind the wheel of this car. After months of anticipation Mr. Stacy drove off the showroom floor with the wife’s new ride on the afternoon before Christmas Eve. He was absolutely certain she’d love the triple white combo with the ruby red leather seat inserts, commonly referred to as a “Lipstick” Edition. Turns out, he was right and they kept the Lincoln for more than a decade. Sometimes you’re not able to have your dream ride the first time around and that was Fred Jones story. He’d wanted a Mark IV since they first came on the market in 1972, but couldn’t afford the $11,000 price tag during the marque’s original run. In October, 1985 the Stacys were very pleased to pass their “baby” onto a loving new owner. Mr. Jones would keep the Lincoln in immaculate, original condition for the next twenty-seven years. A month ago it came to us for resale to its next caretaker. Ever spent an afternoon driving a classy, vintage Lincoln coupe? What a treat! Smooth is the word for sure. Smooth powerful acceleration. Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway. Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride. For my money, these Mark IV Series Continentals are the best values for the overall driving experience that a vintage Lincoln has to offer. Look over my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree what a find this is. What you’re viewing is the result of a wash and vacuum only! “Time capsule” is a good adjective to use when describing this car. I know you’ll admire it’s overall provenance. All the glass is fine. The exterior appears to be still wearing the factory original paint and has only a few touched up spots from rock ships and scratches. It even has the factory PAINTED pinstriping still in place! Climb over, under and throughout - I know you’ll come up smiling! Rust? Please, this boulevard cruiser HATES body rust and you’ll be hard pressed to find anything to worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound region is famous for rain, but our winter roads are rarely salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and just stays home. Take another look at my interior shots. You’ll want to be sure and have your best white “Saturday Night Fever” disco suit pressed and ready to go before slipping into the cushy white leather driver’s seat and cranking up that Donna Summers tape on the Philco AM-FM/Eight track player! All the upholstery is in excellent condition right down to the red leather inserts and seat buttons. There are NO cracks in the dash. The headliner and sun visors are about as nice as you’ll find! The original red cut-pile carpets are very clean & decent, appearing to have always been protected by mats. Both door panels are exceptional and in excellent condition with only a few vinyl splits on the pull handles as shown. I’m quite impressed with the condition of the dash gauges and all the switches, knobs & sliders too. They still look as clear and bright to me as the day this rig left the Wixom plant back in November, 1974. Both front seats are six-way power controlled by switches on the doors. The heater works fine but the A/C blows warm and could use a recharge/service. I will be sure to include Mr. Stacy’s Lincoln warranty ID card, a copy of his first Washington state registration application and the factory owner’s manual all packed inside the original Puyallup Lincoln-Mercury “Car Credentials” glovebox jacket. One turn of the key and the strong Ford 385 series 460 cubic-inch V8 fires right up with just a few pumps of the gas pedal when cold. We recently had the top end removed and the heads were sent to the machine shop for rebuilding. The C-6 automatic transmission shifts smoothly, just like it should with NO slippage. All four wheels have power disk brakes (rather unusual in those days) and feel just fine, with no pulling or binding. All four matched Michelin X touring radials appear to have at least 60% remaining tread. In addition to the top end rebuild our mechanic replaced the distributor cap, rotor, sparkplugs, wires and made sure the oil & filter were changed. This vintage Lincoln really is a blast to drive and always gets a “thumbs up” everywhere you go! Please BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a nice vehicle from a respected Ebay Seller. My main goal is be sure you’re happy with your purchase - and your dealings with me – with the hope that you’ll be back again for another and pass my name & number along to friends as well. Please Note: WE will NEVER, EVER “shill” or falsely "bump-up" an auction (a violation of eBay rules and also Federal Law). Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, I require that Ebay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid. If we don’t have this initial contact, your bid might be cancelled. The phone number to talk directly to me, as outlined above, is 206/914-1173. Please feel free to call any time during the auction. Again, my name is MARK THOMPSON. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You’re encouraged to inspect the Lincolm at my Auburn, WA warehouse, so call or send your representative early to be sure you don't miss this one. We reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback. DEALERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO BID AS WELL! Additionally I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is no longer for sale or an acceptable offer has been agreed to. A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the Lincoln later (You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends). If you do decide to have the car shipped home, there are numerous vehicle transport companies to choose from. We ship cars & trucks regularly and I'd suggest that you get a transport bid from my rep, Janice, at Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). Phone her directly at (800) 826-1083 ext. 5096. Be sure to give her my ID number (2362642) so she can pull up our warehouse location for pick-up. Alternatively, you may also want to go to www.U-ship.com. Transporters will bid delivery of the vehicle and you'll be able to choose who you want to use. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, WA). As always, the shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER. The Buyer will be responsible for the licensing requirements in their state of residence. If you live here in Washington State we’ll need to collect the 9.5% sales tax, title preparation, transfer and registration fees (meaning if you’re from out-of-state, I’m NOT collecting any sales tax from you). Because the vehicle is advertised and for sale locally, we reserve the right to cancel this auction early if it’s no longer available for sale online.
