Owner’s manual is in glove box. If you have ever dreamed of owning one of these first year top of the line, Chevy II 400’s, this is the car for you. (V8 was not a option in 1962 ) This car is very original, and you just don’t see cars this great of shape coming out of garages like this one did 3 years ago. We would hope someone would appreciate its originality and keep it as it is, as a beautiful original surviving car. While we are not happy to see the car go, I have taken over the restoration of a friend’s car. Garage space is limited. Sorry, I am not interested in trades. Car is available for viewing, in Whittier, CA to serious bidders only. I have a lot more additional photos, including the undercarriage, that I can send to anyone interested in the car. E-mail me at Cfamilyshop(at)msn.com About this Beautiful Car. Steering has a little bit of play in it, but not bad enough that you can’t drive it. I have driven the car on the freeway with no problem at all. My next plans for the car were to rebuild the front end (About $300 for the kit). Car is able to be driven wherever you are ready to take it. If you are the winning bidder, you can simply drive it home! Interior of the car is almost all original. I say almost, because I have been told that the seat covers are not original, however they were in the car when it was pulled out of garage storage. The door panels are in great original condition. Armrests have some fading at the plastic, but no cracks The white headliner is original, and has no tears. The sunvisors have some loose stitching around the edges. There is a small tear in the vinyl at the top of the driver’s seat. (Photo) The seat back on the front passenger side is showing wear between the pattern, however is not tearing yet. (See photo I am pointing at it) The floor within the car is an original combination carpet and molded rubber vinyl mat. (Carpet on the transmission hump, and vinyl on the rest of the floor area.) My plan was to purchase a replacement full carpet kit for the car ($180), however I decided to hold off and try to find one with vinyl and carpet like the original. The only real rust problem I found were two small common sections in the front floor board just in front of the tracks for the front seat. These rust spots were cleaned out and treated with POR-15 Rust Prevention filler. (These two patches are black in color and in the photos) The car is ready for flooring or carpet. The original flooring vinyl is very dry and cracking, but you are able to see that there are no other rust spots within the flooring. The car had aftermarket seat belts only in the front seat. The seat belts were very hard and brittle. 3 seat belts were replaced in the front seat, and I added 3 seat belts to the rear seat. New seat belts are red and exact style of the ones removed on the front seat. The front seat has two inch seat extenders. These were added to make the car more comfortable for my height. These can easily be unbolted and removed. The trunk has the typical very minor surface rust, but is not rusted through like you usually see on these cars. This car has spent 37 + years in storage in garages, so it has not been exposed to the elements. I found a carpet floor mat that fit the center of the trunk just perfect. The mat is just laying there. Exterior of the Car The paint on the car is original. It is thin in some spots and you are able to see the primer a little bit on the trunk lid in a small spot. There are a few paint nicks on the roof of the car, possibly from having stuff stored on it while being stored for 37 years. I have only washed the car. Car has never been waxed or polished by me. The car at some point may have been in a minor accident in the left front fender. The paint on the left front fender was flaking off when it was pulled from storage and almost appeared to have been repainted with a spray can. A friend took the time to remove the fender, sand it down and repaint it. The color match was very successful and unless it is pointed out, you can’t tell that the front left fender has been repainted. The leftover paint mix comes with the car. The front and rear bumpers have recently been replaced with aftermarket exact replacements from Classic Industries in Huntington Beach, CA. The original bumpers are in my side yard and are included with the car if the buyer wishes to take them. The Headlights are both original T-3 Bulbs. The taillight lenses and the front turn signal lenses are original, and have 62 stamped in them. (The reproduction lenses do not have this stamping) Wipers are original Trico stainless arms and blades. Just wiper rubber has been replaced. The stainless trim, the rocker panels, have not been removed. They have the typical dings and dents for a car of this era. The wheels have the dog dish hubcaps, with aftermarket beauty rings that fill the gap between the hubcap and the outer part of the wheel, giving the impression that they are full wheel covers. I found a brand new matching 4 piece set of these beauty rings and they come with the car, along with 4 additional hubcaps I have found at junk yards. The front grill (1962 only) is simply beautiful. The grill has cleaned up nicely and has never been removed by me. The trunk lid has some small wavy dents on the back side, just above the rear bumper. The left side, rear quarter panel has a small slight bulge to the front of the rear wheel opening. It is believed based on the condition of the old rear bumper that the car may have been rear ended at one time, and the small bulge (Photo) may be from the impact on the body of the car. When the rear bumper was replaced, no damage was found with the exception of the left rear bumper bracket slightly bent inward. The doors and trunk all close solid with what appears to be normal gaps. The right rear quarter panel has a crease in it, along the bottom, forward of the rear bumper. (Photo) The stainless trim around the rear window has a dent in the lower right side, middle. (Photo) Windows and Rubber / Undercarriage The windows are all intact and not broken. Wing windows show a little yellowing around the edge but not very noticeable. The weather stripping has not needed to be replaced except for the pieces between the side front and rear windows. The car comes with a new trunk rubber kit that was purchased, however I have never seen water in the trunk, therefore have never replaced it. The car has factory undercoating that was put on the car. I believe this is why this car has very very little surface rust. When the gas tank was cleaned and repaired, it was sprayed on the outside with new undercoating. At that time, I sprayed some sections under the car of the undercoating that appeared to be thinning or peeling. The car has air shocks on the rear. They are at 40 lbs. The car already had airshocks and I simply replaced them like for like. The valve stem is in the trunk. Engine Compartment And Brakes The Engine was painted and cleaned up. The 2 year old battery is a Die Hard Gold with Delco decal on it to make it look original to the car. The car has new brakes, new master cylinders and rebuilt wheel cylinders. The manual brakes stop straight and are adjusted. Radio works. Original under dash speaker has been replaced with a new one from Classic Industries, Huntington Beach, CA. History and Story of this Car that I was told This car was purchased brand new in 1962 at Bob Sorenson Chevrolet on Greenleaf Ave. in Uptown Whittier, CA. The car was purchased along with a station wagon model. His and her cars. This car was driven to and from work by the husband from City of Whittier to the City of Bell. The wagon was the main family car. This car was stored upon the death of the husband in approximately 1970. The car was placed in a garage and the wife continued to drive her wagon model. This car was brought out of storage in 1987 after being stored for approximately 17 years. The car was serviced by a garage in Whittier, CA and was brought up to operation with unknown work that was done to it. This garage, at the approval of the widow, sold the car to a customer that was interested in it. The second owner of the car drove it for a very short time and ended up parking it in his garage around 1989. The new owner had dreams of building the car up with his son. Those dreams never happened and the car ended up sitting over 20 years. The second owner started the car periodically and let it warm up and run, but the car primarily just sat. I purchased the car in April, 2010 after asking the owner about it for over 2 years. The car was flatbed to my home due to no brakes. The car received 5 new white wall tires that are still under warranty with Goodyear (13 inch rims, 4 lugs). The original spare tire was replaced. The gas tank and radiator were removed from the car and cleaned. The gas line was blown out and cleaned. New sending unit installed. The fuel pump, water pump, starter, plugs, wires, battery were all replaced. The carburetor was cleaned and found to have a cracked housing. An identical rebuilt Carburetor was found for the car. The brakes were flushed and adjusted. Wheel Cylinders honed and rebuilt. New brake hoses installed. New Master Cylinder was installed. The heater core was found to be leaking and was replaced. The fluid was changed in the power glide. After several months, we turned the key and had a beautiful running car. Extra Parts The car comes with many of the parts that were removed at the time of bringing the car back to life, if the buyer wants them. I have the old starter, old cracked carburetor, water pump, old bumpers, old master cylinder that can all be rebuilt and many other misc. parts. A friend sold me parts from a 1962 station wagon. I have a spare front end, a second spare tire from that car along with all the original brake drums. Everything is included with the car if the buyer wants them.
