Vehicle Detail
Mostly Original ’57 Sport Coupe Original 283 Engine Frozen VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: VEHICLE HISTORY: This Bel Air coupe was assembled in Flint, Michigan, in early 1957. It was sold to the original owner by C.B. Kelley Co., North Baltimore, Ohio (dealership still in existence), on February 7, 1957 (copy of original title included). In 1982 it was purchased by the 2nd (or 3rd) owner with 63,000 miles on the odometer. He and his wife enjoyed the car putting only 5,000 miles on it during their 28 years of ownership. They took it out on nice days and displayed it at many local shows (two boxes of trophies included). He did much work to the car during his ownership, improving its appearance and reliability, while keeping everything original. He passed away in 2009 and his wife sold it to the current owner in 2010. The last indication of it running is a maintenance receipt (brakes, exhaust, carburetor rebuild) from 2008. When the current owner purchased the car it was not running. He recently brought it to our shop to get running and ready to sell. Unfortunately we could not free up the engine to get it started after sitting for five years, so he wants to sell it “as-is”. Before we tried to get it started we ordered a replacement fuel tank and installation kit which are included in the original boxes. MARQUE HISTORY: The ’57 Chevy is one of the most recognized icons in the automotive industry. Stylish and sporty, there’s no doubt that it’s one of America’s best and most loved cars. Chevrolets for 1957 came in a few different trim levels and this one is the upscale Bel Air. Under the hood Chevrolet had achieved an engineering milestone, Ed Cole worked magic developing Chevy’s small-block V8 engine including this 283CI 2-BBL V8. The Bel Air Sport Coupe base price was $2,399 and this one with all the options sold for $3,089. Extra richness characterized the Bel Air line in all regards. Side trim was arranged as on a 210 model, except the area between the moldings was filled with a silver anodized aluminum beauty panel. Three gold chevrons marked the forward side of each front fender. Also done in gold were such things as the grille insert, V-8 ornaments, and Bel Air beauty panel scripts. Rocker sills, roof and window outlines, and the entire edge of the fins were all trimmed with bright metal moldings. There were also traditional Chevrolet/Bel Air crests on the rear fender, near the golden script. Distinctive two-tone interiors were another highlight of the upscale Bel Air. VEHICLE CONDITION: We do a mechanical and cosmetic inspection to each vehicle before listing it for sale. This report is included below will provide a reasonable description of the vehicle condition. Older vehicles are subject to normal wear and tear and we have tried to indicate the overall condition of the vehicle to the best of our ability. But, we can not always find everything that is not perfect with a vehicle, so independent inspections are welcome and encouraged. We drive each vehicle approximately 20 miles, but this is no indication of its long term road-worthiness. The only guarantee with an older vehicle is that someplace, sometime, something will need repaired! INSPECTION REPORT: Year 1957 Make Chevrolet Model Bel Air Sport Coupe Ext. PHOTOS BELOW: Please excuse the random order of these photos. I've been using Photobucket for years to host my photos and now all of a sudden, I can not get them to show up the way I've organized them. Sorry for the radomness, but there are 65 photos showing all aspects of this '57 Chevy.
