Vehicle Detail
Sorry for the break, but we are relisting this as in our previous listing eBay determined from the VIN code that it has leather trim, which is not true. IT DOES NOT... TRIM IS VINYL. Also, on reflection, we believe our original listing made the car sound like it could be immediately put into use, which it probably could by an enthusiast, but we want to see that it goes to someone who appreciates it for what it is and won't fault it for it's few flaws. It's a 46 year old car but we believe it is a truly exceptional 912 in terms of it's originality, how well it runs, and most of all it's lack of rust. Please look closely at the pictures ask the hard questions. If there are areas of concern, or additional pictures you would like to see before bidding, we will be happy to add to the listing or send directly to you once bidding has commenced. We think this car will be most valuable to someone who knows what it is and has a basis for comparison; it's not necessarily a cheap way to get into a vintage Porsche. I will say I have never been a 912 fan, but the more I am around it the less I am inclined to proceed with selling it. Relatively unmolested 67 912, original black plate California car, purchased new in Manhattan Beach. Runs extremely strong; starts easily, engine runs quietly, does not smoke, has excellent power. Transmission shifts well, no issues with clutch. Car drives straight with no noises from suspension. Brakes stop straight and true. One of the biggest issues with 912's and early Porsches in general is rust and we could find very little if any with this one. We found only surface rust around the top of the fuel tank at the sending unit; nothing at the bottom of the spare tire well, suspension attachment points, or elsewhere underneath. If there is an area of particular concern, please feel free to ask and we can add additional photos. It appears the car has had one respray, in the factory color. Likewise, carpet appears to have been replaced. Seats appear original. This is a truly outstanding car for someone wishing to restore a 912. Although it has had some work done to it, there is nothing drastic; there appears to be no collision damage. There is a small wrinkle in the top of the left front fender that could easily be repaired, quite possibly without filler. If you wanted to enjoy the car the way it is the only things you'd immediately need to attend to would be repairing the horn and wipers. Oil and filter have been changed. Original air filters were replaced at some point with K&N units and we do not have the stock ones. The original owner's manual is included as is a bra and a car cover which is in poor repair. The master cylinder reservoir was cracked and I was unable to source an original on, so I replaced it with an aftermarket one from Tilton. I am fairly certain the car could be driven several hundred miles, however, the risks in doing that might not outweigh the nominal costs of U-ship or other transport companies. I am happy to work with you or your shipper and will, of course, expect to be fully paid prior to the car leaving my premises.
